Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well I'm sick of painting marauders. Thoroughly sick of it. Bless those half-naked bodybuilders, but I can't take any more. Three boxes have been painted and I can't take no more! Not to mention that more marauders means more money poured into GW's coffers that I prefer in my bank account.
So unit fillers it must be.
I appreciate that some people don't like fillers but I can't ignore the 37 spaces that I can gain in my marauder units. that's over two boxes of Marauders at 20 quid a throw.
I have 16 with full command, hand weapons, shields and mark of tzeentch. These guys need a 75mm by 50mm filler and a 75mm by 25mm filler to take their numbers up to 25. They will be fielded in a 5 wide by 5 deep block.
My thoughts are to keep the tzeentchy feel by making some kind of infernal portal on the 75x25 and put it in the back rank, then use some old horrors to make a diorama on the 75x50.
I have 18 with full command, hand weapons, shields and mark of tzeentch. These guys need two 75mm by 50mm fillers to take their numbers up to 30. They will be fielded in a 5 wide by 6 deep block.
I have no ideas for this one.
I have 20 with full command, Great weapons and mark of Khorne. These guys need four 50mm by 50mm fillers to take their numbers up to 36. They will be fielded in a 6 wide by 6 deep block.
I have raided my bits box for heads, spare weapons, standards, skulls and spikes, so can do two fillers with piles of offerings to the blood god, but don't want to make any more like that as it runs the risk of looking lazy and boring. Rocks from the construction site I'm managing will make the piles of offering a little more scenic.
I have no ideas how to dress up the other two unit fillers, but would like to keep a Khorne-esque feel to them.
I would appreciate any offerings of advice, pictures of your own unit fillers or suggestions.
All the bases for the fillers will be cut from thin ply with a jigsaw by my own fair hand.

Chucking in some small dioramas would be cool. 2 Marauders to a 50mm base hacking apart some unfortunate maybe? Maybe a Chaos Ogre/Spawn on a 50mm base?
Or you could use Chariot bases (they take up 8 Marauder bases) to bulk out the unit and only use 6 Marauders on them? Or 4 Marauders worshipping/making offerings to some shrine? Maybe some hero on a Palanquin?
Spawn would work for Tzeentch unit fillers, Ogres for Khorne, Trolls for Nurgle and maybe a pleasure Palanquin for Slaanesh?
Hmmm...I'm almost done with my 108 marauders, so I understand your frustration - they take longer than a Chaos Warrior to build and color up.
Ideas that spring to mind:
1. A circle of marauders that got splattered by an incoming boulder, think big rock, with blood splattered Marauder limbes and weapons/broken shields
2. A weapons rack with great weapons, flails, and shields neatly lined up and a single marauder choosing one he likes.
3. Quicksand, with Marauder heads and arms just poking above the surface, and some lumps for those already under, add a few plants and a half sinking animal for extra effect.
Hope that helps.

How about some serving wenches carrying flagons of mead? Killing is a thirsty business after all. What about some siege equipment? Battering Rams are easy enough to knock up andd can take up some space easy enough.
As a guy who plays skaven as a second army, I feel your pain. Some people will give you crap for fillers, but they are usually elf or demon players (wait, some models cost single digits?!?! Gasp), so we just ignore their opinion.
For slaves I just use ogre bases (= 2x2 slaves) and put one model in the middle surrounded by extra crap from boxes, little plastic rats, random weapons, etc. you can even do two on one base.
For WoC, you will have to use 50x50 monster bases instead, but you can buy those cheap, or even do it by measuring and cutting something to create the bases.
Thanks a lot! I had a feeling Sunday would be a good day for some constructive feedback.
Nice point with the Ogres, Lord Borak, I have nine Hero Quest ogres sitting around not getting used as the rules for them blow. That could see me good with the great weapons regiment, a couple of ogres standing over their piles of trophies/Lunch. Some battering rams wouldn't go astray either.
I like Antithesis' idea about the quicksand, I may try it on the 75 x 50 fillers, with the one in front done up as quicksand, then the one behind with marauders throwing planks over it!
I can then pull it all together with the assorted detritus of my bits box, filling out the bases so they don't look too empty. I managed to jigsaw the bases out today and will sand them down pretty next weekend.
Nice one lads, much appreciated.
Should anyone else have a good idea, it will still be gratefully recieved though...
How about a spawn (or ogre) scattering marauders about it, or marauders trying to chain it up, as if it's just turned?
Maybe some warhounds, either loose chained and held by a marauder as a 'pet'/hunting dog.
You could have a couple of marauders looting the corpse of a dwarf or something (I said dwarf as they're likely to have 'valuable' weapons/armour/trinkets.
Or finally, a couple of marauders (either armed or not) fighting, goaded on by others around them, as if fighting over a disagreement/bet/insult etc.
(These might require some conversion and/or at least one more box of marauders, depending on what ypu do/don't have, and choose to do.)
I can't think of any at the moment, but I really like the idea of bigger creatures (ogres or spawn) or the quicksand thing.

Well at this point I'm becoming resigned to the purchase of another box of marauders, but I can try to make the most of it by dressing up fillers, then any remaining models can be used in the usual way to beef up one or another of the regiments.
The point should be in this case to get maximum bang for my buck while ensuring that the army loses nothing of its looks. I can't conscience half-assed painting, and I'll have to apply the same standards to the fillers.
Like the idea of chains, perhaps two marauders on a base behind an ogre, one holding it back with a chain around its neck, the other prodding it forward with a pike of some kind.
Let's move on from looting though, this is khorne, I want a marauder tearing the bleeding heart from his fallen enemy! Now there's a conversion.
Yeah, I'd go with that - especially for a 75x50 filler, run a shrine of sorts in the center of the unit, with members of the front 2 ranks pulling it along by chains.
Hounds also work for good fillers. I did it once just because I need more base-area, but then I noticed that it actually looks cool and makes sense to have the Marauders holding onto some warhounds. I went with plastic wolves from the Wolf Rider regiments so they wouldn't be confused with Warhounds, but it still looks awesome.
