Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am planning on getting more marauders and outfitting them with great weapons with the mark of Khorne. What is the best way to field them, blocks of 40 or 50 and how many models wide? (I will be facing orcs and goblins mostly)
What models do you guys use for your Battle Standard bearer? I am at the point now where i want to include one in my army and was looking for some ideas.
50 is a solid number to bring against an O&G player, mark of khorne + greatweapons is the way to go, I like to deploy mine 6x9 and if I have to reform to fight a horde I will do so.
As for my BSB, well I use the archaon on foot model, I put him on a smaller base and replaced his sword with a giant flag.
50 lets you soak up casualties, and ideally, I'd reform before combat to be at least 10 wide against anyone unless I knew I was going to lose or was low on men, if you reform to more than 10 wide, say 12, you get more, extra attacks, unless you're going to cancel steadfast otherwise, or need steadfast yourself, you may as well kill as many as possible. As for BSBs, you could try loading all your extras onto a chosen/knight/character model and giving it a banner, or try one of the AoW models, though I haven't looked much at the chaos characters so they may not be anything good.

Thanks for the quick replies.
Should I have my BSB mounted or on foot, and does he work better if included in a squad or by himself near a bunch of squads?
Thank you guys.
A BSB is typically at his best in a unit, where he can't get picked off by cannonballs or mobile things that can get behind your lines.
Marders o 50 MoK GW is the way to go. I tend to start them 10 wide but will reform them when the situations call for it, such as when I am in combat with something that will hit just as hard as I will, or if I am going to get multi-charged and need SCR to push me thru. No one can really tell you when to do that, it is something you have to learn on your own, perhaps observing a tricky player would give you some ideas.
As far as a BSB, I actually use mine mounted. Most people don't, and that is because he is not nearly as well protected in the unit of knights as he is in with foot troops. But I find the extra bit of options he can grant a small unit of knights makes for a very effective unit for applying pressure wherever i need it most.
I think a mounted BSB has potential, personally, but you almost have to pony up the extra points for the unit of Knights - it's way too risky to leave him out there on an island. If you were going to do that anyway... well, you've got yourself a good thing going there.
Thanks, this helps out a lot.
Thank you O' Denizens of Chaos.
His gear makes the knights so much more resilient that they can shrug off the vicious hits early on. Given, once you lose 1-2 models it gets dangerous, but on the flipside you also take up alot less space and can sneak thru cracks to get at the stuff behind enimy lines. play with it if you want, but expect it to fail in the begining. It takes practice to learn what these guys can and cannot do in the new game.
To be honest with you, I'm considering 9 Knights + BSB right now. I think it'll be a boss unit, and it makes for a great modeling opportunity as icing on the cake.
