Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey guys awhile back I posted that I wanted ideas for a dragon that my Chaos Lord from my manticore set could ride. Well, I've settled on using the black dragon from the Dark Elf army - Dark Elf Dreadlord on Black Dragon | Games Workshop
Its on its way now in the mail and I am trying to get ideas on how to make it look like it turned on its original dark elf master and was then tamed by my chaos lord. Do you think it would be possible to use the dark elf rider that it comes with, to fit it in the hand of the dragon? So hes carrying his old master while my Lord sits atop.
Cool idea? Lame? Any other ideas so I can start collecting the pieces for while I wait for shipping?

to me a dragon is a dragon is a dragon. If this is about coming up with an excuse for having a darkelf model in your WoC army, you neededn't bother. spending the $$ that they cost, any dragon is an acceptable model for any type of dragon.
If this is because you really like the idea of stealing a dragon from the druchii then I think you should focus on some of the finer details of fluff until the model arrives. Once it arrives you will have a better idea of how plausable your modeling concepts are. perhaps the rider fits easily into his talons at an angle that looks natural, maybe it is impossible. maybe the talon will hold him right, maybe you will have to cut them up at the knuckles and bend them yourself. Maybe there is little work and maybe the task is monumental.
Get your hands on this guy:

Start with the elf and take as much as the dude as you like. The focus is the posture on the captive rather than the hero. You won't see too many models in a position of discomfort, submission, or pain. and these are the hardest of things to capture in a conversion as it is told in the finer details in the posture. The elf can more easily be converted from woodelf to dark elf than a glorious general be converted into a casualty of corruption. So what if it's being held by the rider and not the dragon? Like cats, dragons will present their trophy to their leader (or something like that). Fluff win.
Wow nice find on the elf in pain. They are actually all over ebay for not a ton of money (that specific one). I may take the elf and give him to a more current looking lord, that guy is not as cool as the current lords to me, plus his legs would have to be converted to the seat of the dragon. All in all, very cool find. I think I could convert him pretty easily to DE. hmm... A lot to think about now...
Thanks big time!
Dammit. If I had access to my bitz box I could sent you that Elf!! I have him spare after I converted that model If you can wait 3/4 months I'll post it to you. Although thinking about it it wouldn't be hard to convert one up yourself.
whatever your intention is, i have a feeling that any model that has had a lighter taken to it is going to look like a model with a lighter taken too it. Never tried it but everything elese I've tried involving plastics and melting tells me that nothing will work the way you want it too =P
But perhaps this is a more common technique than I'd have thunk, anyone out there know how well this works because of experience?
Well I have nothing else to do with the rider the dragon comes with so I'll melt it and see what it looks like. Maybe a great paint job or something could make it look good.. Either way I'll post a pic whether its horrible or great lol
use a soldering iron rather than a lighter will give you greater control or area effected.
