Welcome to Librarium Online!
Good evening .
I'm in need of opinions, on taking down monsters . My list won't use any marks, since they will follow Malal, so all those killy-combos are out .
Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance .
Depends on the monster. Warriors with Halberds and the Flaming Banner chop up anything with Regeneration and T5 or less, like a Hydra and an A-bomb. Anything with low Initiative can get nuked with a Pit of Shades or a Purple Sun. I can't really think of a monster that doesn't fall into one of those two categories.
A Giant will kill any monster with low Init. Hellcannons can introduce Gribblies to a str10 D6 wounds hit......... Other than that there are some combos you can try. The Potion of Might and the Glaive of Putrefaction springs to mind.
If you are looking to own a monster in a single phase, the Hellfire Sword is fantastic. I try to get some kind of Ward Save (generally MoT and Collar of Khorne) but if you are going without Marks, then go the whole hog and get the Potion of Strength. 5 St 8 flaming attacks with Multiple Wounds D3+1... Ya, that will wreck damn near anything. As an aside, any multi-wound model hates the Hellfire sword, so Ogre players will hate you for bringing that damnable sword out to play
I use lore of heavens (D6 S6 hits) and knights to take down those bigguns. I preffer knights because monsters usually have great mobility and I've found that warriors are just to slow to gain contact at the time of my choosing. A hellcannon is also a viable option but that's kind of a hit and miss (mine skatters of most of the time, same as for pit or sun).
Another tactc is tying the monster up in an endless batlle with a 3+ ward model (like hero or warshrine). In some of my lists I use a 3+ ward stubborn lord. He can tie any monster ( A-bomb or bloodthirster a.o.) for sufficiant time to move my army in to possition. Although somtime's Tzeetcj likes to play with my dice and I see 300 points waste away in a single round.
And don't forget GW drogers or GW khorne orgres. They pack a lot of attacks at great strength and enough wounds (take 4 models) to withstand monstrous attacks and can't be stomped (with the A-bomb beeing an exception).
And than their is the chosen star, it can kill almost anything.

Giants are the most killy, but the easiest to kill themselves.
Dragon Ogres and the Shaggoths both have access to high STR attacks (7 and 8 respectivly)
Hellcannon's shot is an equalizer, and in Combat he can grind out some monsters without trouble, other monsters with some trouble.
I would stay away from the Magic options and item options for this role. Magic is unreliable and the items . . .. . well character allowment is tight with our expensive characters and I can see those points used better.
What works best really depends on the type of monster. Really the only thing that is good for everything is the hellcannon, and really thats a 1/3 to hit and 1/6 of doing squat., not the greatest of odds but always a threat to everything.
That is partially correct. Pit of Shades only affects models under its template. The Purple Sun is a magical vortex, so it will affect any models that it passes over along its way.
Unless is spesifically states otherwise, templates only hit the models underneath them. Magical Vortex are one such exception (Pit of Shades is Direct Damage).
Oh well, half right, I knew sun was vortex for sure and just kind of grouped pit with it, especially as the casting difference is so small.
