cheapest way to run a combat effecive exalted hero?

I'm looking for good cheap set ups for exalted hero.

My plan is make chaos version of Thor to run with my khorne marauders, if that helps any.
also prefer not to use shields for this model either.

    thanks for any help

Grab him the Mark of Tzeentch and a Shield........ Job done lol. For Thor I'd probably go for 2 Weapons, MoK, the Dragon helm and the potion of might. 6 str8 attacks is pretty fun

98% of the time my hero gets a halberd. +1 str and doesn't come out of the magic items allowance, downside being not actually magical (matters more with new vamps).
With that there are options. most will vote the 4+ ward combined with MoT for a 3+ ward for obvious reasons.
You could also go Helm of many eyes for ASF and (most of the time) re-rolling missed hits. This makes him very good in CC as hitting is pretty much the hardest thing about combat for these guys =P That item also leaves points for a low ward save or another item. Not much at the point cost of note save for perhaps the book of secrets. Making this guy a level 1 caster is somewhat thor-ish? i mean, he wields the power of asgard or something.
Then you have your gifts, out of a seperate pool. I would normally only consider the stream of corruption for a hero, but the bloodcurling roar would fit thor-fluff better (could call it a hammer shockwave or something)

Honestly tho I'm not sure you really can do much with Heros. Their use (outside of BS seems to do better if taken with a minimalistic approach.

Hmmm... Setting the Thor theme aside, but keeping the 'no shields' restriction in mind, I'd probably go for dragonhelm, talend, MoT, ironcurse, and halberd.

I don't like to spend more than 200 points on a BSB, I feel like it's a reasonable price for a main combat hero/BSB... generally looks something like..

Exalted hero, BSB, MoT, tali of endurance, halberd, stream of C. [199]

Cheap, safe and pretty killy...I like stream of corruption as a safety precaution, and it's good at dealing with large units.

I didn't see the OP ask for a BSB, but rather for a hero to lead a block of marauders...

Noma, I think you may have done your math wrong. I run the same BSB, except that I use the Armor of Destiny as my General has the Talisman of Preservation, and he clocks in at 219 points. What you have adds up to 214 points, not 199.

200pts for a characters isn't exactly 'cheap' either'. Not that you can really get a cheap Exalted but, still.

I'd say that trying to keep him under 200 points pre-BSB upgrade is a reasonable goal. With that in mind, I like Noma's build, though I'd throw the Ironcurse Icon in there if it's not already taken.
