Dwarfs can still make a good list thatll match up to the new books. I've had my Bret's out recently and they don't match up at all the core ruleset combined with overpriced knights with rubbish stats makes them too fragile. There is too much stuff that ignores armour leaving small units that can't deal with standard infantry even if you get the charge. Unfortunately those sort of things don't make Gw business decisions dwarfs seem like a Gw choice due to popularity and a book that's easier to rewrite than wood elves or Bret's. I can see Gw having chaos as a relatively high priority as they have good sales. That and they still work with the current ruleset meaning itd be a good earner. Tbh it's all speculation but with the emphasis on infantry blocks dwarfs and chaos seem like easy options for them.

Edit: completely agree with the whole warshrine thing it fits with the current way books are being made. Fairly basic standard troops that are made better with shrine style units and characters.

I have seen the argument posed that warriors of chaos are popular so that helps them get a new book. From a business standpoint I think I would try to boost a less used army with a new book instead. I am personally looking to eventually play another army and id really like to start wood elves but I simply can't because they are so out dated as we all know. A lot of armies become unpopular because they are out dated so then to avoid them turns the situation into a vicious circle. If this strategy keeps up we will all be playing space marines one day.

I fully understand what you mean by this. I saw what they did with the Empire, Vampire Counts, Ogres, and Tomb Kings - all fair armies overall, and all of the 8th eds are balanced against one another. The problem is that mostly they've only hit the middling 7th edition armies. There are still utter terrors out there: well run Lizardmen lists are nigh impossible for the 8th edition books to beat, hell, they're hard for Warriors to beat. Daemons can still get pretty nasty if they want, Dark Elves are still pretty high on the curve. Below the 8th ed curve, you've got your Dwarfs, Brets, and Woodies. I'd actually put High Elves in the middle, they're not as flexible as the 8th ed books, but the options that they do have can still hold their own.
In a way I guess that what I'm whining about is the knowledge that Warriors are still going to viable, but I'm going to lose out on how powerful they are. Right now, they're not broken, but they're still one of the better books in the game. I can even stomach Lizardmen at the moment, firstly because they're a balanced book that isn't relying on some kind of cheesy build to be uber-powerful, and also because as it stands, my Warriors can still go toe to toe with them. Once they knock Warriors down to an 8th ed army, our "playstyle" probably won't allow us any viable options for dealing with a solid Lizards army, let alone the Cheese-fest builds from the other standby 7th ed powerhouses.

That's what really miffs me about Warriors being redone - we actually fit in nicely with the 8th edition books. I remember when their book came out, after Vampires (my regular army in 7th) I was excited to think that Warriors would be the next army to ride the razor's edge of the power curve. I liked their book, but I was a bit let down - they were only "average" in 7th, falling in line with High Elves, Lizardmen, and Empire. In 8th, they were powerful without being broken, and things were great. They started updating the books and suddenly Warriors were even more even with their contemporaries. I played against the new Empire book the other night, and I must say that they're no pushovers. The new Ogres have given me a run for my money, Tomb Kings can be frightening but their playstyle just suffers against our statlines (as our playstyle suffers against Dwarf gunlines) and everything else is really peachy in my opinion. There's no call to redo the Warriors - we're not OP, we're not weaklings, we're right where we need to be, even our unit choices are widely varied and balanced within the book. If it's not broken, why would you try to fix it? All that I feel GW can do is mess up our book, I don't trust them to ever write something as good as the Warriors or Lizardmen armies for a very long time.
I am not offering any comments regarding the Banner of the World Dragon at this time. For my thoughts on the situation, please refer to the following scene from vintage film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYiv76qRCkA

I'm just gonna sing and dance if they get buffed and bitch if they get nerfed.

That's all there is to it.

I know what you mean captain. Much as I'd like a shiny new book WoC are really well balanced at the moment. Let's hope the studio sees the balance and not the 2-3 builds in our book that are really nasty. Hell even a chosen star is just difficult to defeat not impossible though. It'd be nice to actually see them update books that are nearly a decade old before those that are only a few years old.

If we have a difficult build to destroy build I've yet to see it, even the chosen star has its fatal flaw. So I would find it hard to beleve that GW wold truly nerf our book, even with all the rumours gooing around we would still have a viable army running around. A second argument is that the whole concept of warhammer is based around the fight against chaos I would find it hard to beleive that GW would nerf one of its sides and since chaos is is fewer in books I don't think they would really nerf one of those books. That being said I have no idea what they will do in 9th where it might be that good is wailing down on chaos.
So for me the reall question is what they are planning with 9th edition and its view on the batlle scale.

    9th edition! whoa lol.

edition - release date - years btw release dates
    1st ed 1983
    2nd ed 1984 (1)
    3rd ed 1987 (3)
    4th ed 1992 (5)
    5th ed 1996 (4)
    6th ed 2000 (4)
    7th ed 2006 (6)
    8th ed 2010 (4)
    9th ed ???

Looks like they release a new book every 4 years on average with 6th edition being popular (having lasted 6 years). If historical data provides any indication of future trends (and it doesn't), then 9th edition should be out in 2014.

I'm guessing they will update the last 3 6th ed armies still around (Dwarves, WE and Brets) before 9th ed comes around, which gives us 9-12 months before all armies are 7th or 8th ed. and puts us in mid-2013. I'm guessing they throw in two or three more army book updates into the mix pushing us into 2014 just in time for the new rules book to be released. I'm guessing the armies that will get updated are Daemons (from what I hear they're fairly one dimensional in terms of what you should and shouldn't take), HE (personally I think an ASF army is an awful decision, plus after the 6th ed armies get updated they'll be the oldest army with a Nov. 2007 release date), and finally WoC (because they're cool and you know you want it).

    But back to WoC...
