When is it worth running the Ranger's Standard?

Thinking about running a Knight bus withe the ranger standard. Any one tried that ? How did it work out?

I'm thinkIng it would be very nice to not take dangerous terrain tests and just charge through woods, fences and walls :-)
Also be a nice surprise in closed list games.

Yalls thoughts?

I've done it before, and it makes for a nice insurance policy. That being said, if you are using them as a hammer, I can't recommend enough MoN with the Banner of Rage. If you really want to make it gross, add a BSB with the rampages standard and Soporific Musk. You get to make long charges, kill them dead when you get there, and almost for sure run them down.

thanks for the input! Interesting suggestions, I'm looking at running 8-10 Knights in this unit. I can see the MoN helping with missile fire defense.. not so sure its better than MoT

I'll have to look up that rampage standard when i get home, don't remember what that does.

The rampagers standard allows you to re-roll failed charge distances. It is just expensive enough that only a BSB can carry it. I like the MoN on this unit because there are a lot of units in this game that are WS 3, and this gives you a huge edge in combat. Additionally, I play a few Empire players who are loving the new Hell Blaster, so MoN helps out a lot when you're staring one of those bad boys down. Although, to be honest, it doesn't help nearly as much as MoT and the Blasted Standard. If you want to make it a unit that A) the opponent cannot afford to ignore, but can absorb a huge amount of punishment, you could get about 10 knights, and a character on mount. Go MoT and Blasted Standard on the Knights, and give the Character the Collar of Khorne for MR 2. This way, the whole unit has a 1+ 4++ versus all ranged options. This is a unit that can quite literally take the fury of a full gun line and still be standing. That said, it's not as dangerous in combat as some others

Or skip over the Rampagers and go for the Blasted with MoT. My typical build is a BSB with the Banner of Rage and the Knights rocking the Blasted Standard, with everyone toting Tzeentch around. Frenzied knights with a 1+6++ or 1+4++ against shooting is nasty.
