    I really like unit fillers and have seen some great ones. My new local GW manager has made a 'bar' scene with an ogre barman and a bunch of drunker empire militia for one of his units - in fact all the best ones I have come accross seem to be for empire armies.
    The general trend I have seen is for them to be for 6 men, and that seems to be quite acceptable everywhere.

    The only ones I really use are zombies rising from the ground, and they are more spare markers for my undead army.

    Probably the main reason we dont see many fillers in warriors of chaos is that for one you dont need all that many models to make a unit in the first place and for two the box sets tend to be a bit 'effecient' with their spare parts so I am not really left with enough bits to do much with other then have a mound of weapons and severed heads... but a decent pile of stuff with a few marauder guards would more definately look like a fine filler.

    The idea of filler of course was not to just take some foam, glue a rock and a tree to it, put it in the middle of four guys and say it's 18 warriors 6x3. The idea was to create really cool ... well ... filler. More of a creative aspect, you don't have to bring it to a tourney. Like Borak was saying, a diorama of Chaosy awesomeness is what I had in mind.

    Think of a spawn in the middle of a Marauder Horde on a 50x50, he's tossing Marauders around and possibly eating someone. I mean that's not cheap, imo. You didn't take some rocks from the garden and call them part of a horde ...

    Just a thought.

    Immortal Scrub made some fine fillers/command groups shown somewhere around here using Ogres on 50x50. I discovered the idea not long ago and now my Orcs boosted in numbers a little - I found it so easy to do that not having enough models I just put some on larger bases and now I have 2 units of 20 Boyz plus 18-worth of unit fillers, but the goal is to have the fillers filled up. I thought about one for Marauders - two/four of them carrying a palanquin or something (what's it called, a death-bed?) with some fair maiden lying there, her heart ripped out. It would also be an entry for the Sacrifice competition, but I'm almost certain I'm not gonna do this, so please, if anyone's short of ideas, I'd like to see that.

    Well into the depths of making a huge block of marauders utilising oop models and a huge variety of models to get a theme of nurgle crazies coming wandering out of a wood with their plunderings, unit fillers I feel help to tell a story whilst also making it fun to make large blocks. I would be so bored making and painting 60 of the same model (plus I hate the marauder models).

    I currently have 3 unit fillers, loads of multibases and will be making 2 more unit fillers soon, not all to be used at once, but to provide some variety of using the unit (plus the possibility of playing an even larger horde occassionally). They are pictured below

    Nurgled tree and gibbering spawn beast thing from the woods

    My newest unit filler - a captured ogre from their travels that doesnt look too unhappy to be fighting anymore

    And some multibases

    My next two unit fillers will be a 75x50 marauder with dogs on chains and a 50x50 woodland scene with a woman about to be sacrificed to the gods

    Here's the lot together so far (still loads of gaps I know)

    @redemptionlife

    Thank you. This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about! I don't think anyone looks at that and says "This guy is cheaping out on our hobby ..."

    @Blackheart

    Hope not, the price of the pestigors alone makes my wallet weep, then the old nurgle champ, new nurgle champ old marauder standard bearer.... pretty sure this unit is going to cost around £200 by the end of it.. now I just have to give it a good enough paint job to make it worth while

    Would love to see some pics of other peoples unit fillers to errrr inspire me..... (mwhaha...)

    I think my ideas on unit fillers match with what a lot of people have already said.

    To me a large unit gets boring when it is just a crowd of guys. Unit fillers help to create some diversity. Heck I am going to be using a well sized unit filler in an 18 man chosen unit soon and I don't feel ashamed. The money I put into the filler is slightly more than the money it would of taken to get the models. If the motives behind a filler is "I want to save money and time" then you aren't doing it correctly in my opinion. The attitude should be "I am done painting the same darn thing over and over, I'm going to be creative and make something unique that stands out!"

    Here are the two fillers Miko mentioned. I think that even units as small as warriors can't be hurt with a little customization/personalization. It keeps from everyone's armies all looking the same.
