any attack that is strong enough to cut the armour save, like S5,S6,S7 will all give him a ward save on a 1,2,3,4,5 even though his armour save gets lower.
That's insane. I've never played the Dark Elves but that guy is pretty mean. Total point denial.

so if you are strength 3 then he has a 1+ re-rollable armour, then a roll of a 1,2,3 ward save.

any attack that is strong enough to cut the armour save, like S5,S6,S7 will all give him a ward save on a 1,2,3,4,5 even though his armour save gets lower.

so basically the weak stuff cant beat the armour and the strong stuff cant be the ward save.

I found the best thing to kill that dreadlord build is waywatchers. S3 killing blow shots negate the armour and only a 50% chance to ward save it or die.
Interesting, thanks. So my Chaos Lord being S5 gives him a rerollable 5-- Ward Save, which is the equivalent of a 2++ Ward Save? That's pretty damn scary. I can see why he's called Unkillable. I'm off to see what I can come up with....

Does the unkillable dreadlord have a dragonbane gem or a dragonhelm? Cause I can see lore of metal wounding that build on 2+ with no armor save, of course, and since the wounds have no S associated with them, the pendant provides no ward. If he does have a 2++ against fire, the lore of death, which WoC have access to, does the trick, as well... Failing magic, S3 or S4 attacks that allow no armor save are the best bet.... If you can combine that with other trickster's, perfect! My own solution is a general of the empire with runefang and other tricksters in full plate and shield on pegasus. Killing that dreadlord is by no means his only use!

No, WoC can't have anything quite so unkillable, your build is about the limit.

yeah he does, he doesnt have re-rollable AS my bad, its somethign like this:

    1 Dreadlord, = (+ Heavy Armour+Sea Dragon Cloak+ Shield)
    1 Dark Pegasus,
    1 Dragonhelm,
    1 Pendant of Khaeleth,
    1 Crown of Command,

leaves 20pts for a weapon, or you can take a GW, repeater crossbow, etc, you can also drop the shield for a GW, or the Magic GW and take a cold one to maintain the 1+ AS, or you can take a black dragon.

Hmm. I haven't tried lore of metal on him, but the one I face has a 2+ armor save on a pegasus with a mundane great weapon. I assume that the dragonhelm is part of that build! In any case, lore of death would work just fine!

For the dwarf and the dark elve I've had some good experiances with a sorcerrer on disk with the roar. S1 no A-save really ruins their day. And as said above no strength wound from magic can do the trick as well. In my nurgle army I've got 2 buboes (festus and Level4 mage) spamming high armour/toughness gooddies.

Ahh good call on the Roar. That'd be fantastic on that Dreadlord.

You're still wounding on 6s though so it's no guarantee. For the Dwarf Lord you can take the Rune Shield and a suitable weapon to ignore armour saves. You should be able to make a fight between stats and you should win that!

Seriously though, the best way to knock him out would be to take Distendable Maw. Even better if you're chucking Miasma around. and even without you have a 1 in 3 chance of him failing his Init test. Much better than the 1 in 50 or so chance of actually wounding the git. OM NOM NOM!!!

I guess that is a nice thing about lore of shadow too - it has that spell that can reduce the toughness on the dreadlord. Imagine how nasty bloodcurling roar would be if you could wound on a 4+ with no armour save!

I've fought that Dreadlord many times. The only times I've killed him is with 30 dogs (yeah, dog-horde) and once with bloodcurdling roar.
