Daemons seem to be (in general) way overpriced for their points. They have this annoying ability to die if they fail that Ld. Test. So, why take a daemon general? Why ever consider them as core choices?

deamons have there advantages and disadvantages as all troops in the game as it they wernt it would be unbalenced. i myself find deamons fairly priced for what they can do, some even find them underpriced . like take screamers for example 5 scremers could take a whole dwarf or empire artillery out . or bloodletters with there superior strengh and weapon skill could take units of troops out. so no i think they are good at what they do.
and about the deamonic general, i find deamonic genrals a bit of a waste of time i must admit but they can do great . and if you want a deamonic general with mortals as core use master of mortals deamonic gift.
and as for deamons as core , some like to have a different more unique creatury army then just be the same with units of mortal tin cans.
I have Khorne Daemon army and it is a great army to play with , Daemons have a ward save! which is great for not taking many casualties anyway , they are fairly priced too especially blood letters as they are a bargain and with the daemon special rules they are great fun for slicing through the enemy , i use a bloodthrister as my genral and havnt had any problems with having demon as my general , the blood thirster alone always makes his points back .

What about when using the deemonic legion armylist. I know a guy that has a khorn army. I've only seen him loose against a skaven player thats #1 in canada. Sure you may not have as many units as your enemy but chances are you'll over power them really easely.
i was thinking of going undivided. think about the damage you could do with an all daemons in your army. *drool* If you don't like the point value take a look at the true core units and tell me that a unit of 20 horrors or plague bearers is over priced.
It depends on which daemons you're on about. Screamers are brilliant, and I'm sure that bloodletters, plaguebearers and daemonettes can be good too (if used properly of course). But, Horrors are abysmally crap, Furies are poor mans screamers and Flesh hounds are something of a one shot weapon (having both frenzy and a 14" movement). Generally, some daemons can be useful in augmenting a mortal or beast force, but I think an all daemon army is probably going to be quite challenging to use effectively.
The plus points of daemons are fear causing, ward save and immune to psychology though, so it's not all bad!...

i dont use daemons for my main units. they are a waste of points but are great in backup (if you have a mortal general for example)
I'm slowly building a Khorneate daemon cavalry army. Most people think of it as strange, but I have one word for you: Bloodcrushers.
80pts a model is expensive, and converting 16 of them is taking forever, and a lot of coin. But they look cool and their stats are well worth it.

Sounds fairly cut and dry to me.
There shall come a time,
When one who has the heart of a Kilrathi,
but is not Kilrathi born,
Shall rain cleansing fire down upon us,
and Kn'Thrak, a time of great darkness
Shall embrace us.
i find deamons are some times 2 specialize. Demonettes are good against tanks, space marines, and necrons. Plauge bearers are good against thing with high weapon skill and can not make a lot of amor saves because of nurgle rot.
ig-12, you don't get tanks and space marines in fantasy battle. You appear to be talking about Daemons in the wrong forum...
