Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I'm asking for a little advice concerning developing my first Chaos List(s) for my first game(s) of WHFB, as well as a little advice for a newbie in general
So my first game will be only 250pts and I will be using my Archaon's Horde army. The person I will be playing against will be using Empire or OK. My proposed list is:
Aspiring Champion w/shield
5x Warriors w/shields
Followed by this game we will move to a 500pts game and then a 750pts game. Is there any unit types that perform better in small games than the ones I have listed?
In a 500pt or 750pt game, would using a Chaos Spawn be suggested?
Any suggestions for a new Chaos commander in general?
I think you need to get some Maruarders. The are very flexible with weapon options, and are worth their points in those smaller games. In smaller games the warriors and knights will suck up points, so the maruarders can beef out a force nicely.
40K-Beakies(9-14-4),Guard(4-7-2),Orks(34-12-11). FANTASY-Dwarves(15-6-7),Beasts (14-14-1), Skaven (17-17-10) DoC (6-1-2). CYGNAR (28-15-1)
If you want to win, bulk up a knight unit and give it chosen.
It's expensive, but not much at that low-level of a point limit can deal with it effectively.
About spawn - depending on what the empire player fields, it could be good or worthless.. I wouldn't field it against OK.
Warhounds are a great choie in the army, as they are dirt cheap, fast and screen verywell, and can take on light cavalry.
Marauders are the true core of the army, they give you numbers and decent flankers with flails, and decent ancors with shields and light armour and a caracter in them to boost CCR and Leadership.
I am not a fan of chosen knights, but if you like them (and they are fluffy too) I'll include them in the list I've made up for you.
Here's what I suggest for 500 pts.
Aspiring Champion 82 pts
10 Warriors Of Chaos 168 pts
12 Marauders 77 pts
4 Chaos Knights 142 pts
5 Warhounds Of Chaos 30 pts
Total 499 pts.
And for 750
Aspiring Champion 110 pts
Enchanted Shield, Sword Of Might
5 Chosen Chaos Knights 235 pts
15 Chaos Warriors 243 pts
15 Marauders 95 pts
5 Warhounds 30 pts
5 Warhounds 30 pts
These list were made considering taking undivided, but it you like a certain patron god, please submit it.
To be honest, that Skirmish list is either going to win big or loose big. I'd personally drop Knights and get Marauder Horsemen with Throwing Axes. More Spare points for things like Marauders, which in small games, can be life savers, since they're cheap as chips.
Don't play Archaon's Horde, it's cheesed out and boring to play (after one game I was tired of free command groups, massive amounts of Warriors and no Marauders). Just play normal Chaos, it's easier for you.
For 500 Points I'd get something to take a lot of casualties, like Warhounds, which you have, and Marauders, which again, in small games they're effective (not to mention adding numbers and being better at fighting than most other infantry), I'd take a small unit of Chaos Warriors, possibly only with the Champion.
In 750 Points, more Chaos Warriors to add punch is nice, and so is a small unit of Knights. Don't think about any Chosen untill you've reached 1500 Points. Trust me on that... They're a pointsink and a major target. I'd give the Aspiring Champion Gaze of the Gods...
"The streets a flame, the people in flame,
The Apolapsy Four Ride out again.
The flame of Hell are freezing over,
And Heaven is falling out of the sky!
Is it any wonder that the world is going to burn in a cleansing flame?
Is it any wonder that the world is coming to a realigious end?"
Well this list was made out of the models he had, just to get a feel of the units and choose for himself.
marauders with axes are the best arrassing units chaos as, you might want to pick up some like Darmort said.
I already played my first games (250pts, 500pts, and 600pts). With the list above I won the 250pts & 600pts. In the 600pts I took a block of 16 Chaos Warriors w/cmd and held the middle of the table, while my knights and warhounds pounded the left flank and my mage harassed the right with fireballs. In these games however, there was not a shooting phase (he played actually played orcs) and didn't have any war machines.
I could definitely tell how marauders would have been extremely useful (large numbers & ranks). I hope to get a unti of 25 added soon.
