lets say u take a unit of chaos marauders and give them light armor a shield and a handweapon. it would only cost 1 more point per model to get an equivalent norse marauder unit that has frenzy. wouldnt it be worth ti it almost every circumstance to just get norse marauders?
the only reason i can see is that there are no rules regarding a unit champion or a bearer/musician for the norse. any ideas on this?
check out the GW website, i mean the dogs of war Norse marauders.. heres a link to the page on the website where the 4 different PDF files can be found
and i dotn think u can give marks to marauders
I only have a 56k connection at the moment, and there's a pretty strict download cap. I'm getting broadband soon though. I can't really downloadf those files cos they'll take ages and I couldn't be stuffed.
Just explain the difference and I'll try to help.
Take a normal Chaos Marauder with Light Armour and give him the Frenzy rule (NOT Mark of Khorne). That's what a Norse Marauder is. In DoW armies, it's Special, in others, Rare. Same weapon options as normal Marauders, as well as the option for Shields.
Norse Marauders cost +1pt over similarily-equipped Chaos Marauders.
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
The main reason for taking Chaos marauders instead of Norse marauders is the fact that Norse are rare choices and Chaos ones are Core. Even if you did prefer Norse, you'd be extremely limited to the amount you could have, plus you'd use up valuable rare choices that could be used on better units from the Beasts book.
Also, Frenzied marauders isn't always a great idea, they aren't really that tough and can easily be led into charging something that they'll fare badly against.

hmm the one point might be worth it tho for the extra attacks dotn u think? most peopel are paying 2 or even 3 point to make their warriors gain extra attacks. especiallyin a big game where they could be 'lost' inside your other groups of marauders by your opponent and not apreciated till they have already done some damage
I have to be honest, I've never felt that the extra attack was worth losing control of your troops. I always want to be able to decide who my units charge, it can make a huge difference to the outcome of the game.Originally Posted by fingerbang
Imagine I had some Norse marauders in my chaos army and I were fighting against Dwarfs. The battle gets underway and, obviously, I advance across the field. The center of his battleline consists of two units of Dwarf warriors and a chunky unit of Ironbreakers. If he had any ounce of sense in him, he could simply move the Ironbreakers forward and force the loony Norse Marauders to charge them rather than the warriors. This would be disastrous for the Norse, since while they'd stand a chance against the warriors, they'd get a beating from the Ironbreakers. That extra attack per model is going to do jack all against the toughness and knight-grade armour of the Ironbreakers. Plus those Dwarf elite are also S4 and could easily cut down several Norse once they bounce off the Dwarfs.
'Course, had they been normal marauders, I could have chosen to charge the Dwarf warriors instead, and leave the Ironbreakers to a harder unit, like my Chaos warriors.
As far as I know, there are no models for DoW Norse marauders, you'd either have to use Chaos marauders without the chaos symbols, archive chaos marauders or perhaps the Bearmen of Urslo regiment of renown.
