Welcome to Librarium Online!
I just received the Hordes of Chaos "starter" set, Hellcannon, Chariot, and two Sorcerers (mounted and standing) I ordered from Games Workshop (I volunteered at the 2006 Los Angeles Gamesday, and received a $190.00 voucher).
Anyways, I just started to read the army book and must admit that I am a bit overwhelmed  , and need help figuring out which army line to build upon. Do I just go Chaos Undivided (from what I gathered I'd be able to battle with a little of each)?!
Before you answer take this into consideration: I like to play mostly for the fun of the game (typical statement from a regular Orcs n' Goblins guy ), but I do like to win. I'd rather have a close battle where the end could go one way or the other, and not be so slanted...
Thanks in advance guys and gals...
Well I'm assuming that the starter set came with the army book, and that has some background of all the different chaos gods. It's really your choice. Read up on them, and decide which one you like.
Also there was a set of books called the "Liber Chaotica" about each god, that has very in depth information on all of them. I wouldn't recommend buying it, but you could very easily do some reading next time you're at your local store. And yes, going undivided does mean that you can dab a little in all four pools.
The Hierarchy Chaotica: Kinky Sex > Change > Disease > Blood
98% of the population actually believes these stupid statistics. If you're part of the 2% of humanity with a brain, put this in your profile.
the way i picked a god was going for the one that had a coulor scheme i liked wich was a very dark and mucky green
Really, I think that the army or god you choose depends on how you want to play. For example Khorne armies tend to play the same game every time, a one trick horse. Nurgle gives your units the ability use psycology to win games. and so on and so forth.
I suggest you start off with a marauder based army. That way you have solid amount of core troops and then can expand with units for each god. Then once you have decided which way to go expand in that direction.
Hope that helps

First of all, welcome to the Community. Hope you get to like it here.
All the gods have wildly different playing styles. The theme and play of each army (therefore the colour and effect of each mark) should be taken into consideration to make your choice. There is no right answer.
Fat_Badger's signature gives a fairly simple and straight forward description of the 4 Gods:
Slaneesh: Perverted. They indulge in the darker side. Nice purply colour scheme. Magic focuses on affecting the enemy. Making them mess up their movement and giving you the advantage.
Nurgle: Disgusting. Just a bit icky. Icky green, mutating colour scheme, lots of scope for disgusting conversions. Magic focuses on damage which disallows armours saves. Lots of Fear, using that to your advantage is the key, though rather slow. Has the only swarm unit.
Tzeentch: Cunning. Mutations all over the place. Blue and gold, other pearlescent (sp?) colours. Masters of Magic, Heroes are proficient magic users, all units boost magic capability. Has best flying unit.
Khorne: Brutal. Blood and skulls flying everywhere. Red and Brass as the main colours. Masters in combat. They can make the best combat troops, however frenzy makes them unruly.
For a more subtle army I'd go with Slaneesh or Nurgle. Khorne definately isn't the kind of soft touch army in my opinion. Khorne still requires skill, but its a 'Man's' army. Smash their faces in, then decide how you did it (if you get what I mean).
Slaneesh and Nurgle can be used in very interesting ways. Nurgle can use their swarms as tar pits, lots of fear to spread around to keep the enemy on the back foot.
Slaneesh can be the most devious. Making the enemy move the way you want them too with their magic. Using their very fast units to zip around the place.
Personally I'd read the pages 16-23 and decide on which army you like the sound of. THen use 74 -81 to see which army looks the best to you.
Whatever you choose you will surely enjoy the might of the Horde!
Welcome to LO btw.

I really appreciate each one's input! It really helps. Guess I'm gonna have some intense reading and mulling over to do this week, as I am just dying to get to painting...
