Welcome to Librarium Online!
Well with the next addition looming down upon us, i was wondering what people were going to do with their magic users now that they can be targeted if not in a unit.
I usually had two magic casters thst would run close buy units, but never join. now should i just plunk them into units and then hope they live through CC?
or what units would people sugesting placing magic users in? foot soldiers, mounted, scrimishers (only works with beast herds and shamans)?
I've always just kept my sorcerers in my warrior units, and I think that's where they'll remain. The only difference of course now is that I won't be able to hop out of the unit before combat starts.
However there might be a way around this if using spells like those in the lore of Slaanesh that don't require LoS. I might have my sorcerers chill behind units.
The Hierarchy Chaotica: Kinky Sex > Change > Disease > Blood
98% of the population actually believes these stupid statistics. If you're part of the 2% of humanity with a brain, put this in your profile.
thats what i was thinking too, behind units for non-line of sigt spell, but i will probably still hop my units out just for the fact that there are plenty of buildings or forests to give them a cover save, so they become even harder to hit.
E-bay helps us all!

Being Tzeentch warrior-sorcerers, my casters have always led from the front of their units anyway, and this is how it shall remain in the new edition. Especially as I now understand that they're even more protected within units (can't be cannon sniped I think).
However, for any other chaos sorcerers I use, they'll probably either ride inside units and hop out just before combat kicks off, or they'll just have to try and use woods and other cover to stay protected from shooting.
"Peace, through superior firepower."
One of my sorcerers usually went with some chaos warriors (always equipped with some protective gear, i.e. ward save, magic armor or the warrior familiar) to keep him alive during combat. Worked quite well if not pitched against enemy elite infantry (remember, our sorcerers come pre-equipped with nice shiny chaos armour)
If not, you could always refuse a challenge and hide him in the back. Ihs Ld isn't higher than the warrior's he's accompanying, so no loss from that.
My second sorcerer which was more of a dice generator for the other loomed in the back togeter with a small marauder unit not doing much except terrorizing enemy light cavalry and suchlike that dared to come closer.
What I'm gonna do with him with 7th Ed I'm not sure yet, have to figure it out.
I never fielded Chaos Sorcerers, as they are more expensive and hit less hard than Bray Shamans. The Bray shamans generally provided a little oomph to a beast herd in CC anyway, so I always just put them there. So no change for me next edition.
Arena of Death Champion: Nexim of the Guldskullz Tribe. Fear my wrath!
Yes no change for me either, all characters should be in units anyway.
I've always had my chaos sorcerers in my units, the 4+ armour keeps them going for a while. Then I take the sword that give +1 attack and they aren't too bad when the fights go down.
My WE mages. Well that another issue.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
Same here. Putting him with a 24-strong marauder unit with handweapons and shields usually keeps him alive. Especially when the unit have a support-role and don't live as dangerously as the great-weapon-wielding ones.
yeah i was a little suprised that the non-targetable (?) rule was removed for characters walking beside the unit. my girlfriends dwarfs are gunna have a field-day with my sorcerers!
also with the sharing of power dice now removed it makes it a better option to equip the sorcerers with magical weapons to take down a few more people in combat (plus the whole "look-out sir!" ability - must be yelled at top of your lungs when rolling )
that flaming sword of ruin's looking good right about now....

"Now that question is less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid manner..."
- Chaos Undivided: way too many points for my small budget
- Empire: reliving my first army
- Lizardmen: too many skinks dammit
- Space Marines: who doesn't like a man in armour? lol
