Welcome to Librarium Online!
hey all. been a while since i posted in the fantasty section. been trying my hand at chaos 40k. but today i played my first game of fantasty in about a month against the shops skaven army.
it went just about as horibly as was possible for the first 4 turns. at only 1k points he had three weapon teams, two warp cannons, and three warlock engs. even with the targeting out the weapon teams and the sorcerers i only wittled down one with magic. he was able to decimate my furies, knights, chariots, and some muraders before i got into CC and was able to get revenge.
Part of the problem is i was expecting some units to fun due to panic tests with magic. but he said he could count up to four ranks in the leadership tests. that made it so not a single unit ran. (including slaves!!!) is that true?
is there any suggestiong for a allcommers type army against a skyre army? or tips to get into CC faster?
It's true about the ranks giving the leadership bonus. As for the army in general, there may only be one way of dealing with it: refuse to play it. That's pretty cheesy having three weapons teams, two cannons and three engineers at 1000 points. You aren't going to find many armies more cheesy than that at 1000 points.
But, if I had to offer advice, he has a lot of points in that shooting and magic, meaning he probably has no flank protection. I would forgo block troops for the most part, and focus on a fast, hard-hitting army and get him at the side, and then just run rampant through. If you negate his rank bonus you also negate his leadership bonus.
Shame you can't do a Tzeentch Flying Circus Daemonic Legion army just to teach him a lesson. Good luck!
Beasts of Chaos (4000)
Chaos Marines (3000)
Warhounds will solve a part of your problem. But warp lightning cannons can shoot through anything ! I would got the other way around in the approach.
Knights and chariots are juicy targets, and they are very sensitive to shooting. Warhounds on the other hand are equally fast, but are dirt cheap. So are marauders.
Use warhounds to declare charges against the warp lightning cannons, they must flee if you are in range. He can't gun them all down, and make sure they stay within general's leadership range. As long as a single one charges he just lost the cannons.
Use furies to charge the ratlings. He must first pass a fear test before the stand and shoot takes effect, and you have good odds at leadership 5.
At 1000 pts, you can pack 3 units of 25 marauders, 3 units of 5 warhounds, a unit of 8 furies and 2 khornate aspiring champions.
If he can chew threw that in the shooting phase before you get there, he is just plain lucky, and you can do nothing against that ^_^
