Alright so here wazup: im thinking about having 10 knights in my 2000 point army, they roughly make up about 400. Im not sure how to set them up. I have so far 8 of them, a mucisian, champion, standard and 5 other models. I can convert 2 models to musician and standard with leftover chaos warrior parts, but im not sure if i should do one unit of 10, which i was told was a bad idea. Or 2 units of 5. Im really confused on using chaos knights. Im playing them undivided, and not upgraded to chosen. So any help would be great. The rest of my army consists of about 70 chaos warriors, 10 war hounds, a champion, and crom the conquerer. All adds up to about 2000 points. Help is greatly appreciated.
400 what? Points? 10 Chaos Knights are already way over 600 points without command group :w00t:they roughly make up about 400
As for your question: I'd say make two units of 5 (or one of 6 and one of 4, it might confuse your opponent a bit  since a unit of 10 doesn't really help that much:
They only get +1 rank bonus and that is lost as soon as they lose one model. Granted, they might still get the bonus for outnumbering but that's all. You'd have too much points stuck in passive boni this way
With two cavalry units you might get to outmanouver the enemy better (Marauder Horsemen would be a great addition for that, too; get them if you can dig up the money for the models)
And maybe even getting a flank charge; denying enemy rank boni and getting +1 for flank attack, now that's something
Hate to correct you Orkbert, but 10 Chaos Knights with full command is 380pts. Personally I would have 2 units of 6 if possible, both with musicians, but no other command structure. Use them for heavy flank charges, as they can destroy a units morale with a quick blow!!
New LOChat functions now avaliable.

No problem, Now I wonder where in my calculation the extra factor of 2 came up. (Stupid me  )
I guess my mind coughed up a bit with 10 Knights and two units
Well, but leaving my whacky maths aside the rest of the post is still valid.
In addition I'd recommend to give at least one of them a full command unit (and maybe including the War Banner) so that they (perhaps joined by a champion or lord) can even dare to make frontal assaults.
Just for flank charges aforementioned Marauder Horsemen would perform at least as good (would be better manoeuvrable anyways). But since you have the knight models anyways, it would be a shame not to field them at all. Still, in a friendly game you could use them as proxies and see if teir tactics would fit your style before needing to spend more money.
2 units would certainly be better than one large unit. One big unit of knights is a lot easier to avoid than 2. And as has been pointed out you would be paying an awful lot for +1 combat res. Musicians are very useful indeed in case you do ever break it makes them far more likely to turn around.
If you are using the knights for heavy flanking units I would not bother with a standard bearer in them. If you have a unit of warriors engaging the enemy at the front they will have the standard there, if you include it on the knights you are making a gift of 100 vp if they break. A champion is also very expensive for +1 attack.
Helper monkey, bring me beer and donuts
Oops. Well, I'm not a native English speaker, and in several other languages, the plural form is boni :yes:Surely you mean 'bonuses'
Ok so ive decided so far to use 2 units of 5 knights, i confused on what to give them, ive got 8 knights so far, ill include 2 more soon, I have a champion, and standard, and a musician. I can convert them off or add a standard and a musician. Im not sure what to give them. So far im leaning toward musician only. But an extra attack from a champion is quiet handy. And standard gives you rank bonus if you need to frontal assault. Im planning to use one unit to frontal assault and the other to flank them. I might give my chaos hero a mount, but im not sure how to do that. I cant find anyway to make it look like a lord on horse. Thanks for all the help.
One way to get a champ on a steed is to take the Chaos Champ and a Chaos Knight, cut off the waist up and green stuff the edges after you put it together. I did it to mine, and while the model has 2 HW (never give him 2 in actuality), it is crystal clear who the general is.
Hey thanks, ill try something like that if i do what im going to do. Do you think a half cut chaos knight with the top of crom the conquerer would look nice? I also considered buying the archaon model. But i think that would just stick out too much. I think i just might use the chaos knight champion, cause it really not worth the points for a champion, and ill just buy and extra chaos knigh. It also looks like it could be a chaos lord.
