Hello. I am startinga HOC Slaanesh army and I have a quick question before I assemble some warriors. I am planning to do a 25 man unit of Chosen with the Rapturous standard and am wondering what you equip them with. Since the standard halves such and such, I was thinking of equipping them with halberds in the hope of wiping the whole front rank before they attack me. So is this a good option or should I just go with the standard HW and shield? Wondering what your personal experience and preferences are.
In a 25 man unit of chosen either halberds, great weapons or a second CC weapon are viable choices. However, a unit like that takes up alot of points, so I'd probably still go with a shield just to protect your investment. BUT if your playing less "shooty" armies then halberds are a good go too.
Since Chosen Warriors with Halberds already cost well over 20 points per model, giving them additional shields doesn't bite too much anymore and you can decide whatever to use in close combat (for example: toughness 3 opponents with low armour will already be shreddered by your handweapons anyways  )
And the extra point of your armour save comes also handy against enemy ranged combat.
If you are going to have them as chosen then simple handweapons and shields are the way to go.
I have found that chaos warriors (especially chosen) get a lot of attention so you want to make them as survivable as possible and a 3+ save aginast shooting/2+ save in combat will do that.
Not only that but with the Mark of Slaanesh they will already be immune to psychology so panic, fear and terror tests will not be an issue, therefor 25 can be reduced to 20 without much (if any) reduction in efficiency.
Now it might just be me but I have found the Rapturous Standard to be far more effective on chosen chaos knights as if they do not break the enemy in the turn they charge the standard will still allow the knights to strike first in the following turn, hitting on 3+, against all but the most rare of opposition thus giving your knights more chance of breaking the enemy in the next turn.

Basically life sucks, there is only war and you're probably gonna get eaten by Tyranids, have fun.
Chosen, HW and shield, with the BSB near by and that's one helluva tough unit to break.
Whatever you choose to go for, it's gonna be a very expensive unit!
Have fun =)
When I do field chosen, it is very similar to what you are doing. 20 chosen with the rapturous standard, and shields. It is rare that you would want to use halberds over the boosted defense. The number of S4 attacks you can get should be enough to inflict damage. The real benefit that this unit has is that they are so difficult to damage. Even enemy cavalry charges will rarely inflict a single wound. If you want some high strength hits in the unit, add an aspiring/exalted champion and give him a halberd, GW, sword of might, etc. WS7 + rapturous standard also means that even enemy characters will find it almost impossible to hit him.
