Welcome to Librarium Online!
Sounds like a stupid question, but how would you recommend equipping a unit of warriors, the general feelings from army lists i get is, sheilds, which is what im pretty sure im gona go with as i just brought my first box, which oddly counts to less than half a full regiment... oh the annoyance
But yeah, are they always best with sheilds, or is there a time i should use two weapons in certain tactics? etc? or are they just not worth the points? or does it really come down to preference....
This group is my first as i said, so will probably see the most action as my army grows, so the most useful and versatile set up is preferable....
(erm, ooops, had multiple windows open, so iposted in the wrong part, can a moderator chuck this to the HoC part for me please... sorry)

Well, I'm no pro, but I recently started HoC too.
Anyway, I equiped mine with Shields and 2 hand weapons. 2 handweapons for the charge and the shield for the long run or armor saves against missile fire.
In my Viking List I gave a nice sized unit of Choosen Warriors Greatswords, the Chaos Armor is good enough and my list survived reviews. So I guess Great Weapons can be used. That unit was supposed to be used as a punch unit to. To punch in the killing blows to the enemy.
If you have the mark of Khorne I would give them two handed close combat weapons to maximize the amount of attacks they get. Or if you want them to pack a real punch give them great weapons. At strength six they can deal some massive damage to small and large targets. And even if you dont get the charge you still have some protection against attacks. Halberds I dont generally use only because they dont pack the punch of great weapons and I believe you either go big or go home! Shields I almost always use shields because you get great protection from missle and close combat attacks and in the end you want to outlast your opponent which is what chaos warriors are good for. So I would say go with the shields because your gonna love the 4+ armor save against missle and 3+ save in close combat.
Khorne should have two hand weapons definatly.
With other armies i suggest you get a unit with sheild and hand weapon and one unit of two hand weapons.
If you have chosen warriors give them sheild hand weapon only because theyll get two attacks with better armour.

I can tell by some of the advice most of you started lol. No offence.
First off Warriors should never ever!!! be equipeed with great weapons. Their high initiative is part of the reason in which why the reek of awsomeness. Great weapons are a definate no. Against dwarves bring a halberd and shield. Shield untill you reach close combat then hack away in close combat with the halberd.
Two hand weapons seem to be the most common in Khorne. This is my scoop. In a 2000pt khorne army, bring two units of warriors. One big block of 18 (6x3) with shields(for the great armour) and a small block of 10 on the side with two hand weapons for flank charges and to support the bigger unit.
Like haydyn said, chosen non khorne should be given shields and hand weaponds only. Khorne can sometimes be given two hand weapons and shield. Two weapons and a shield is good idea, but too expensive in most cases.
And a hint for when you start to play chaos. Never purchase a champion for chaos warriors or chaos knights. They are way too many points for just one extra attack.

i use two different loadouts typically.
the first is haliberd and sheild. good save against missle fire and wounding on ones against most humans and elfs is realy nice.
the other is just the hand weapon and sheild. decent atacks and a realy good armor save in CC. great weapons are a total waste.
sometimes if you just want to try something different i have taken a small block of chosen with extra hand weapons and then try to break the enemy on the charge... if you dont you are totaly boned.
