Hello, I am thinking of starting a chaos army and was wondering what members think the ideal unit size of warhounds is? You might also explain their uses. I see them as warmachine hunters and flank chargers; but am interested to hear from those who have used them. Also how many units would you have in an army? At only six points each and no limit on numbers of units, I was planning on having at least two units of six. Thanks for any help.
I'm veteran Lizard (sometime Empire or Bretonnia) and I'm preparing for starting Chaos. So I only will be user of hounds  I think about hounds like you - at least 2 units of six hounds
(6 is nice Slaanesh number  )
In my mind hounds are good flankers or may be scout hunters or diverting unit
But why not sometime try unit of 18 hounds? ... :w00t:

... try Czech language ;-)
Warhounds are best used as a screen for your much more expensive units, such as Chosen Knights. They block line of site so while they'll take a few shots, don't forget to still allow the Knights LoS for a charge! It's a bonus if they manage to survive and then they can run around to take out warmachines and the likes. But considering how cheap they are, screeners are their best use.
Warhounds are for screening chaos knights and marauder horsmen or flank charging. A unit of 5 is always helpful

Screening is their most common use. A unit of 5-8 is hardly any points, and keeps what ever is behind them alive to reach the front line.
They can be also used to bait the enemy into a charge, cop it, but make sure the hounds are angled slightly, to expose the enemies flank. Again, 5-8 is good.
They have one more use, Ranks + Outnumber. Remember, they have US2 per base, and gain rank bonus. I used to couple 10 or 15 up with a chariot. Hounds help with ranks and outnumber, chariot causes wounds. However, you could use upto 20 for this purpose. On their own, they can pick on certain targets they should be able to overwhelm, such as chariots, certain s3 cav (elves etc...), detatchments and so on.
As for the whole 'flanking idea' youll have to do this with unit of Hounds that have ranks. The reason, is whatever ranks you negate, the enemy should get back just by killing hounds. But with 1-2 ranks + flank charge +negate ranks, all of a sudden, they should nail what ever they charge.
Hope this helps, Tim
Thanks for the help. Sounds like a couple of units will go into my army.
The other good thing about Warhounds, is that they give you a cheap unit or two to throw down early in the deployment phase, allowing you to keep your more expensive units until you opponent has placed some of his units.
