Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hello. Is getting a Dragon on a Tzeentch Lord worth it? I just saw in a huge point battle some Elf on a Dragon going around killing everything. He came up and killed my Chaos Lord and a Dwarf Lord that was fighting besdies him. That thing was a beast!
Yet he was healing it too. So is taking a Chaos dragon for a Tzeentch lord a good idea? Im tempted to give mine a dragon now! Any way to heal the Dragon, or make it hard to kill? Ending a spell round on Yellow Fire is one way that comes to mind.
Nice choice on the Dragon, I play tested one twice and I think they are awesome, A Tzeentch one especially, if you manage to get orange fire on it you will destroy most units.
You cant heal anything when playing Chaos however, but in combat you are nigh unstoppable so what I would suggest is that you take the golden eye of Tzeentch, 3+ ward against shooting for the model and his mount is invaluable when playing armies with many warmachines such as Dwarves, Elves and Empire.
Chaos Dragons are awesome for taking out warmachines too, with a mage sitting atop blasting spells and the dragon firing out both breath weapons they are great for picking out isolated units.
When I used mine i was playing Ogres the first time and Orcs and Goblins the second and between toasting maneaters and incinerating rocklobbers and spear chucka's Chaos Dragons are awesome.
Depending on how much money you have you should take a look at forgeworld. Either you can buy that dragon or it will give you ideas on how to convert your own one, because Galrauch is a terrible model.
Thanks for the reply.
Whats warforge though?
I almost always get Orange Fire, I was gonna post a thread of anyone else getting one spell every game regardless of what Sorceror I have! Lvl 2 or 4 I get Orange Fire!
EDIT: Heres stuff I wanted to add in but ran out of time before.
One thing I try and remember and I think is a general rule, Chaos is safer in CC then not. I had a Champ with one hit point left (He was spell casting and shoot waring) instead of continueing it on I zapped on Orange Fire and rushed him into combat were he feels home sweet home with his nice WS.
My only fear is, my Tzeentch lord with armor of damnation and staff of change died to some homemade hero on a dragon. Is that normal? I was hoping Id at least kill the dragon seeing I could do nothing to his hero. Something doesnt seem right. If only I was Khorne, then I would have taken the awesome axe of Khorne! (then no magic )

Im not sure what you meant about a "homemade hero" but if its what I think it is i dont think its legal, elaborate and then I should be able to give some insight. What army was he/she (lol, she) playing?
I always get Green Fire, which destroys, Kroxigors, Swordmasters and Executioners Blue Fire is my fav spell and if i get those two I'm generally pretty happy.
Your army list should be adjusted depending who you are playing, if you know that your opponent is taking a Dragon, take the Rending Sword or if you have the Points Take the other sword that does d6 wounds (name escapes me at this point) but make sure that you can get into combat with the dragon, i know how annoying dragons can be.
And forgeworld is a games workshop site that deals in more detailed models that are great, due to the rules on this website I cant post it on here but if you put Forgeworld in google it should come up and the Chaos Dragon on there is amazing.
His dragon went into combat right away. It stood did nothing a turn but get shot at and healed. Then he moved it towards my guy (still far though) then charged it, and killed it. A dwarf Lord that was nearby jumped into combat to help.
Might I add I dont have much for lists. I have a box of marauders, warriors, chariot, 2 champs. I ordered warrior boxes and stuff a month ago but nothing came. I did get another Tzeentch champ, that I found at another store. Not sure when all get the chance to buy anything else Chaos. Our store does have demons, a spwan, and all the lords and some champs but thats it. I have no intention for a lord model, spwan, or demons yet.
Look out for daemons, they are awesome but in the hands of an inexperienced player (no offence) can be pointless, you need to think 4 moves ahead with daemons because combat res will kill them and they are quite expensive.
As far as the Homemade stuff goes, if you let your opponent do that you might as well conceed defeat now. I can understand why you do it but there is almost no point when you are trying to play a competitive game.
Before you buy anything else you should think about what kind of army you are going to field. When it comes to Tzeentch you need some more infantry, not marauders as they dont give you the valuable power dice needed to domiate the magic phase. Warriors are your best bet. Great toughness and good armour and if given the Mark they can give your more power dice. TzenGors are good also, skirmishers in a Chaos army are great, I use normal beastmen as a screen when I face Empire
If your friends insists on taking a dragon you should think about taking an Exhalted Daemon with the Mark Of Tzeentch, they are flyers and are formidiable mages in their own right and can blast spells with the best of them. If his Dragon is annoying you, fly behind it, Throw some Blue or Red Fire at it and he will have to turn to face you so you can distract the Dragon long enough to Charge it, or continue to blast it with magic.
For demons, I dont even know why I put the word yet. I really havnt wanted them nor do I want them now. Occasionally I say I want some, but I dont want many. If I do have demons in an army its bound just to be screamers for knight screening.
So for beastmen should I try and get a unit to just lead the attack vs a shooty army? Everyone here plays shooty. H Elves always, every game, sit back and shoot with archers, spells, repeater cross bow whatever. Dwarfs will do the same. Empire does the same. Unless one can out shoot the other. HE is able to all the time. So should I have a beat unit lead the march across the battlefield and expect to get blown up? Sounds fun!
I probably should, everyones filled with shooting. Nice point on the warriors I never bothered to think hard about.
Im still confused about the homemade thing. Did you understand what Im saying but do people not normally play with a ton of items, extra weapons and mounts? Also I want to mention all our battles are on a big open field.
Ah righto now i get it, well it depends on what army he is playing, Chaos are the Combat surpemists so when they lose to Elves its sometimes questionable.
When I face Empire or Dwarves (or high elves for that matter) I take two units of Beastmen and spread them as far as I can across the front of my army, with a skirmishing screen at
-1 to hit and bolt throwers can only do so much. Most of them will be wiped out but the second turn of shooting but thats what they are there for. If an army takes max. shooting and minimal combat they will die easy to Chaos.
A unit composition that I have tried with my Army ( I play Undivided Khorne and Tzeentch) is Chosen Warriors 3 Ranks Back, 6 models Wide, Banner Of Rage. That unit has never been beaten. Ever.
They might not be as good being Tzeencth but Chaos with Combat Res is scary. Knights should be a defianate purchase for you too, a good screener for them as apposed to screamers are Chaos Hounds. Cheap fast cav. that are easy to throw away. If you like Tzeentch you should get a Sorcerer on a Disk, they are awesome and mine survives most games and causes huge amounts of casulties. Worth it in my book.
Anything else I can help with dont hesitate to ask. if you like, post what models you have all up, heroes, infantry etc. and post your normal list that you take and I would be happy to offer some suggestions.
I love taking a dragon. When I do so in a 2000 pt game, thats the only character I take. the golden eye is a must. You must be screwed up in the head not to take it. I mean why else would it be banned in GT. I equip my lord with the golden eye and either the beserker sword or sword of striking(i only equip sword of striking against base tougness 3 like elves or goblins because this way you'll need anything but to hit and wound.) and spell familiar.
In bigger games I equip him with the golden eye and staff of change. Spell wise, blue fire(i think thats the big magic missile) is tactically the best on a dragon, because with flying, its short range of 12 inches is irrelevant.
A Tzeentch army is probably the only time I'd recommend taking a dragon, simply because of the Eye of Tzeentch. Without it, it attracts a bit too much attention in a chaos army.
