Welcome to Librarium Online!
This summer I should have a bit of dollar in my back pocket after working for a few months and I'll also be living on my own for four months, so I'm thinking of undertaking a new FB project in my spare time.
Chaos Khorne has always appealed to me, especially the mounted armies. Also you don't need that many models so it shouldn't be too hard to make/paint etc. Although the price of the knights is very off-putting and so is the price of warhounds, which I plan to use a lot of (Gotta love the buggers)
So I got thinking about making a Khornate mounted army on the cheap, and here are some ideas I came up with.
- Bretonnian knights plus chaos warriors can be modeled to make chaos knights of Khorne. Seeing as I'm going to be using a lot of knights this way seems to be cheaper than paying £30 for five (four units of five would cost a whopping 120 squid! >.<)
- Goblin wolf riders (or the wolves at least) make for warhounds and are a lot cheaper than the £7 for two GW are asking for the actual (6 pt) models.
- With some modeling and swapping the skeletons for warriors, a box of three Khemri chariots can be made into Khornate ones. Although I'm not sure how I would get around the skeletal steeds.
So do you think this would be a worthwhile project? If so do you have any other ideas for me? Thanks
I think you are dead-on with the wolf riders. Although I personally prefer the metal ones, they just look cooler.
Unless you REALLY want cloth-barded steeds, I'd go with empire knightly orders and chaos warriors. then the horses are identical to normal chaos steeds.
I'd just make clay chariots. Look into either green stuff or modeling clay (sculpey?) available in most art supply stores, and just craft something interesting looking. You probably have some spare wheels lying around somewhere, or circular banner parts that'd function just as well. I'm sure you know the disadvantages of frenzied chariots though, so why do they need to be khornate?
Centigors would be a good addition to a Khornate mounted army to deal with those pesky woods. And the drunken rule sometimes gives them frenzy!
Beast herds are very helpful, and also good for woods, although not mounted.
Hope it helps!
You'll spend more on the conversions then it's worth.
The wolves for warhounds is pretty common and will be your biggest saving. However for the rest of the army. You are going mounted Khorne. Khorne knights are expensive and you only need very limited models. Only advise I can give is check out some other model ranges. Like Reaper. They tend to go for lower prices on ebay.
I could use green stuff to enhance the Khemri chariots, I think that would be more successful than making them from scratch ^_^ I'm a complete novice when it comes to modeling.I'd just make clay chariots. The chariots don't have to be Khorne I guess, I just fancied a Khorne army. I'll do my best not to have them run into a house ^_^Like I say, most of the people I know wont be in the same city as me, so I'll be spending a lot of nights on my own when I'm not working.Originally Posted by Sylvester
