I've got a Lord of Chaos Undivided and I'm still wrestling with how to equip him. Right now I think my favorite combination is Black Maul, Gaze of the Gods, Enchanted Shield, Mount
This has the problem and advantage that he has frenzy. I'm not a big fan of frenzy but +2 S, +1 Attack, AND +1 attack for the mount is hard to argue with. I think I can mitigate the frenzy problem somewhat by using a beast herd or a unit of warhounds to screen the lord. If I place him on the extreme flank of his chaos knight unit and then put the warhounds or beast herd so they just block the lord, not the whole unit. In this way my lord will remain under my control until I want him to charge at which point I simply declare a charge with the unit of knights containing the lord, and the warhounds or beast herd to get them out of the way. Even if the warhounds or beast herd charge fails, it still frees up the lord and his retinue of knights to charge.
What do you all think? If you don't like this, any other suggestions for a lord of chaos undivided?
For a lord on foot i like, Armour of Damnation, Gaze of the Gods, Slaughters Blade.
Makes him very tough to kill and deals out lots of damage and auto kills chariots.
Mounted is tougher as i normally fit it out depending on what i think im going to face the most off. Most of my games are tourneys not friendlies.
If i think im going to face lots of:
Dwaves or Knights, Great Fang, Gaze of the Gods, Enchanted Shield.
Ogers or other big nasties like doombul beasts or Darkelves: Armor of Damnation, Gaze of the Gods, Rending Sword.
If im going to put him on a dragon or chariot, Armor of Damnation, Gaze of the Gods, Berzerker Sword.
If i have no idea what im going to face and want a good all rounder: Gaze of the Gods, Chaos Runesword.
You will see the 4+ ward is everywhere and for me it is like American Express, i don't leave home without it. Combined with the big save you already get it increases his life expectancy.
The Black Maul is good but i don't like my lord jumping out of my unit to attack a unit of hounds for example
my favourite for a undivided lord is, armour of damnation, slaughters blade, helm of many eyes, on foot, that gives u a 5 S7 attacks that regenerate wounds, also stricking first, with enemies rerolling hits, and coz hes undivided if he does fail his stupidity test he can just reroll it,
also if you want to give him extra attacks go with khorne or if you want more survivability go with nurgle!!
Karnak, i support your initial setup...
Anyway i advice you that while the maul costs xx points, a mere flail is similar and its cost is ridiculous.
So use the maul only if you really really want that extra attack and you really want a +1 armour save (the free hand gets a shield). Otherwise a lord with flail and bcs comes with 5 attacks @S7 and 2+ AS...not bad.
Obviously it's very good that the maul gives one attack, but it's got some drawbacks, already stated by the other guys here
But i must assure you, the maul always performed well with my undivided lords.
I field them in a meatshield unit of marauder horsemen:this way, the lord is more maneuverable and i can get him in a good flanking position. Then he charges OUT of the unit, while they get the rear.
When the lord is in cc, he has 6 attacks, so makes about 4 kills. this could be enough to win against non-full-res units, since he is likely going to suffer no wounds. And being a single model, he is really hard to flank; and if he meets an enemy hero, wow, there's an overkill to do!
Try it, you'll like it

It's better, it's shiny, it's warped...it's Chaos.
