US White Dwarf 320

White Dwarf has just gone and got better. Really better. First off you get two free minis, an Gobbo and a Dwarf, with the Issue. Next, the issue takes you in depth to the new Fantasy rulebook. There is a Battle for Skull Path 2500 Battle Report, and the two new 40K Megaforces duke it out, painting tips galore, and the new PLASTIC Balrog. Overall this White Swarf is 5x better the the last few. Defently worth a buy.

That's really cool. Sounds like it was the best US WD since issue 300.

Are the free minis for anyone or just subscribers?

Everybody. Don't get to hyped up about the painting though. It really minamilist. The Minis are akin to the BfSP one. AKA "Click-and-play". WD is getting better, but is no means as good as it once was. WD keep trying!

I actually have the opposite opinion. I think White Dwarf has dropped in quality over the last few issues. In Canada, we now have our own version of WD, which started with US issue 318 (in Canada #318 was re-labelled "Issue #1"). Right now we are on Issue 3 (the one with Legolas and Gimli on the front --- as an aside, every international version of WD seems to be using the same cover art right now), and it blows.

Issue 3, along with the past 2 issues, was only 100 pages (instead of the usual 130-14, and nearly devoid of text. The first 56 pages were almost exclusively devoted to LOTR, which left about 45 pages for the other two, more-popular games. The font size has been nearly doubled in most of the articles so the poor writers don't have to write as much to fill in the space. Three-quarters of nearly every page is taken up by photos of minis, many of which can be found online on the official GW sites. Its frustrating.

The battle reports are only about 6 pages long each and cover about 3-4 turns per page, instead of the old stable of each page covering one turn. Really, this has become a mag that seems to be solely about "pretty pictures". Its just a giant advertisement. Rubbish, I say.

P.S. I will not be taken in with two crappy 1-piece plastic minis, especially considering I don't play either Dwarfs or Greenskins. I thought WD had made a comeback in the issues leading up to #317, but now they have taken a definite nosedive which may drive this otherwise-loyal reader away for good. I'll be interested to see if they maintain this crappy format.

I agree 100% The Canadian Wd just sucks. If I wanted to play LOTR I would buy the rulebook and some figgies and play the bloody game. I don't need WD trying to ram it down my bloody throat. I am so sick of LOTR as I said in a different post. They got screwed on the licencing and now there jacking the prices up on the Warhammer games to 'cover' there bad investment.

Here's what he got in Issue #2 of the 'NEW CANADIAN DWARF....
On the cover...we got a smurf...(imagine that a SM on the cover and its a Smurf with the catch phrase... The Fall of Medusa V "The worldwide campaign begins this month. Sign up now" ( now as if I havent seen this a million times before ....sighs...)

Inside the cover is the 'Editoral...which is a huge paragraph on how great Medusa V is going to be ....with a huge pic of the voystrens and the nurgle daemon prince which we have all seen a million times becore... then about 4 sentences on the new Gotrex and Felix models...

Next we have 8 pages of the New 40k figs Daemon prince, C Termie lord, possessed CSM ( which look horrible I thinks personally and Lucis) Eldar Rangers, Eldar HWP, Tau VX25 suits, Captian Sicarius...(sighs another smurf....)Then the Gotrek and Felix special ed models... woodelves...

Forgeworld plug...Red Scorpions...Cullen OrdoXenos Inq Solomon Lok, then the RC vets..

4 pages of nothing about how great Medusa V is going to be ... with another pic of sicarus saying you get him free...didnt I just see this a few pages back...naa couldn't of...

Then imagine this...a Medusa V battle report..... ( sighs and it gets worse.....)

17 pages for this battle report.... the first 2 pages are just fluff, which honestly isnt that bad, the next 4 pages are army selection... ( altho I do like the obidence flyer...citizens stand and fight for the Emperor, Invasion is Imminent! If classified under directive AD/ter.321/a/b/omega-phi as unfit for duty report to your nearest evacuation point immediatly. Attempts to leave by unsanctioned means will result in execution. Curfew breakers will be shot. Deserters will be flogged and shot. Those who refuse to bear arms when call upon to do so will be shot. Your Govenor and your Emperor DEMAND your obedience. Honestly that I thinks is the best thing in the whole issue... I love it personally :shifty: :yes: :shifty: )

Then 10 pages of the battle report, altho half of the page is a picture, with maybe a 8 line paragraph wich is like 2 turns each....sighs there just not putting any effort into this anymore are they??? then on the last page, another pic of Sicarus with the tag line Sicarus saves the day... wow, I thinks ive seen this guy somewhere before...naa couldn't have...

10 pages on the new Gotrek and Felix models, with how to paint them and the sculpting behind them, this is kinda neat actually...with some history behind them...

A cheep plug by Jervis Johnson on how each system has big expensive models that look really cool....and that you just NEED AND MUST HAVE FOR YOUR ARMY TO BE UBER COOL

I buy about 4 per year when there's actually something decent in them (which is usually the games day figure competition results). Other than that the mag is crap. The sad part is, it used to be SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO great. It really DID used to be the indispensable monthly resource for GW games.

yes back when I started getting them around issue 125ish or so. It was the MUST HAVE if you played GW games. Everymonth there was awsome fluff, rules updates, the 'eavy metals where awsome ( alot of personal armies not just the 'this months new figgies painted better then you can ever paint them') I LOVED the personal armies, like the Gene-stealers cult army lists, the conversions...gawdss I could go on forever. And the battle reports where kickass, there where still some crappy ones, but for the most part they where well done they had some story to them ( the fluff back then was amazing and got across just how down and nasty the 40k universe really was). Now...like I said its just a order catalog discuised as my beloved WD...especially pushing the LOTR garbage...like I said, Ive never NEVER seen the game being played let alone any one buying anything for it ....sighs... pisses me right off)
