Also, i picked him and the Pentient as i like modelling and i have plans for both models iuf i start the retinue. If you want to shoot than focus on shooting units, if you want to assault than focus on that, but mixing two will make your squad mediocre at best at any of these two tasks… If you are poised to take the =][= to unlock Assassins for example, I say got for the shooty one. Assaulting with T3 models is not such a good idea. Of course, you could get a =][= Lord, buy gear for your squad and tool it up pretty nicely with items from our armory, but things would get expensive really fast… Plus, you would have to take a LandRaider to enable them to unload and assault in the same turn – with a Chimera/Rhino you would be a sitting duck for one turn – not good when almost any weapon has a fair chance of wounding you, plus you only save on 4+… So if you want a Chimera with lots of high-powered shots, I would take: Chimera with MLaser, HBolter, Pintle mounted SBolter, Xtra Armor, Smoke =][= with Combi Bolter/Plasma Gun 3x Warriors with Combi Bolter/Plasma Guns 3X Acolytes with Combi Bolter/Plasma Guns That gives you 14 plasma shots within 12 inches on one turn. After that it is 6 plasma shots and 8 Bolter shots (in the unlikely case that you will take no casualties). Think of it as a suicide squad - you get one round of shooting, after which you will get shot back and/or assaulted. If you could coordinate with other squads to charge into your targets so that you can load up into the Chimera and drive off maybe you would survive…. Anyway – that is probably the most Plasmas you can take with this squads (QUESTION: Can other IC join in with that retinue/Squad – like Priest, or Palatine for example?) Anyhow – the squad above will cost you 257 points… |

In my army, i have both a callidius assassin and a pair of death cult assassins. About my retinue, do you think that i should switch out the cruaser for another warrior with a plasmagun or swap him for another acolyte? My list is mostly sisters, with a flying cannoness, 2 rhino sisters squads, a seraphim squad, my assassins, a retributors squad, and immy and an exorcist. I was really looking for my Inquisitor to be cheapish and lay down some high Strength shots. However would 3 plasmaguns be a bad idea? Would they all kill themselves? |

With plasma the question is not will they kill themselves...its when will they kill themselves. Take the plasma because thats what you need and the high strength low ap will help you turn the tide of battle...but don't expect long term longevity from a squad where everyone is tossing around plasma. Take your plasma shots at high value targets, get your kills, smile when your guys get trigger happy and paste their superheated guts all over the faces of their squadmates, and be happy knowing that those plasma guys more than made their points value back in enemy casualties.

Thanks for all the help guys! I think that now im gonna get the 3 plasmagun retinue, as the High Strength Low Ap shots are worth it, even if the guys burn themselves to death. Even then, i still have a 50/50 chance of saving them!

I thought of trying this kind of a plasma suicide squad before. Mounted in a Chimera. Haven't tried it yet, but I think it could work really well.

Ive tried out the stormtroopers once or twice, proxing them against my friend. It was my first 40k battle and i lost pretty badly to his powergaming Beil tan eldar. They didnt really seem to have an effect, but then again, they didint have a chimera.

If you want to really beef up the firepower of your inquisitor you should use three Gun servitors. The first should have the psycannon and the other two mulitmeltas. Alternatively, if you use the heavy bolter option, you can go for three of them, giving nine changes of redemption for the sinners per turn. If you also get two sages to improve their BS, they can inflict real pain. Three acolytes armed with bolters, storm bolters or Combi-bolters will add some more muscle to the group. |
