I play quite a few armies, but have always been intrigued by the WE. Here's a list of units I was thinking might work well together. It's meant to be a bit more offensive than the usual point denial lists. Both of my Magic Defense Characters also provide some punch and should be able to stick around in combat. I have really good magic defense in my opinion, since most of the characters are forest spirits, and 4 of the units will have magic resistance.
The one part I'm not crazy about is the Noble scout and the glade guard/scouts. I think scouts are useful and I love the HoDA, but I don't like Glade Guard and the Noble could do probably serve the same purpose as an alter noble. That would also give me some points to add another eagle and push the Treekin to 4 strong.
Let me know what you think.
Highborn Wild Rider Pony Oaken Armor, Dawn spear
Noble Scout HoDA Sword of Might light armor, shield
Spellsinger lvl1 Pony, Glamourweave Dispel Scroll Pageant of Shrikes
Branchwraith lvl1 Cluster of Radiants, Murder of Spites
10x Glade Guard
8x Scouts w/musician
9x Dryads Champ (Branchwraith here)
5x Glade Riders w/musician
5x Glade Riders w/musician
6x Wild Riders w/Musician & Banner Warbanner
6x Wild Riders w/Musician
3x Treekin (spellsinger here or I'll have to drop the glamourweave)
4x Warhawk Riders
Pony?! Wood Elves don't ride ponies! They ride Elven Steeds. Pfft.
Anyhow, as for the list...
Overall, I think it's a good build.
Can the glamorweave singer join skirmishers, though? On her steed, she can't skirmish.
page 67 of the BRB says I can't. That means I need to either drop the glamourweave or put the spellsinger in with the other wild riders or treekin. I may have to try it out to see if I still like it that way or not. I think the pageant of shrikes is useful against other wizards, so maybe I'll put the spellsinger with the treekin for protection until I kill a mage and then have him break off so the treekin can get to work killing things. That also means I can afford another scout because I can drop the champion from the one dryad unit.
You're going to be destroyed in the magic phase.
The singer needs 2xDS and the 'wraith should have a lvl for another dispel die, though I would prefer 2 singers instead.
A couple of points that are just my personal preferences:
1. Spellsinger is better off on foot with the Glade Guard. There is no reason to be a glamourweave.
2. Scouts unit is a bit big, you may struggle to deploy them effectively.
I like the rest of your list. I would consider dropping the Pageant of Shrikes for another scroll but its not the end of the day. I played a 3000pt tournament with 5 DD and 1 DS and didn't get dominated. It's a question of prioritising which spells you need to dispel.
I like your Scout Noble, good kit and don't be afraid to use him as an Assassin and go solo.
Overall I really like the list, it has speed and hitting power and even has some modest shooting.
Well, I don't have much experience with woodelves. The only guy that plays them semi regularly plays a strictly tree/eternal guard list. And while that's a really tough list, I would like to play something different and that is slightly uncommon. I think the spellsinger is probably going to have to either camp with the glade guard, or sit in the trees by herself. That will give me even more points to play with.
Out of curiosity, why don't you like the spellsinger mounted? It seems she would be able to escape things better that way and be more mobile (not that that is terribly important) I'm just wondering if the pageant of shrikes will be useful if I have to keep her back in the rear. I'm kind of looking for a more aggressive feel to the list, so I don't want a whole bunch of units just laying around in the back of my deployment (that's kind of the way I play generally and kind of the theme) I don't know that 2 scrolls will help all that much. There's only 1 opponent who really goes all out on magic and I think I could take down his mages and cripple his magic within a couple of turns anyway (he plays WALTER w/ 2 wizards Empire and Slaanesh Beasts) Esp. with that pageant of Shrikes since I would use it primarily as a mage hunting device. My other plan with the glamorweave was to add a ward save to my spellsinger and magic resistance to my other unit - but that's illegal to add a horse to skirmishers.
At DotR - The branchwraith is a level 1, for some reason that didn't get translated when I cut-and-paste.
I'm assuming that units that are ItP and fast cav, move & shoot like fast cav, but can't flee from charges and that's how the 2 rules work together - right?
Any other ideas for the spellsinger and extra points? I'm dropping the glamorweave and possibly the pony. Im on the fence about the pageant of shrikes vs a second DD.
Would waywatchers be better scouts than regular scouts? Since I have a few extra points?
The main reason I mentioned the Spellsinger on foot was that it can hide in a unit of 10 gg that are sitting back whilst the rest of your army goes forward. But there is nothing wrong with having her mounted. Like I mentioned its personal choice.
