Welcome to Librarium Online!
I borrowed my friends Wood elves and played a 2000pt game vs a Skaven SAD army. I lost which doesn't bother me I like Wood elves and may start an army. And I got to play which was fun (I'm used to 40k) but then the skaven player (who I wont name) started going on and on about how Wood elves are a terrible army. And will just get rolled by any army with decent combat units in it. Which sounded funny coming from a guy who just pulled off a win with a full on shooty army. Now I'm not usually evil but "Revenge" may or may not have been the first thing too pop into my head at that time.
So I went home and wrote up this list
Spellweaver; Level 4 Wizard, Great Eagle, A Pageant of Shrikes, Wand of Wych Elm. (General)
Wood Elf Noble; Battle Standard Bearer, Great Eagle, Asyendi's Bane, Hail of Doom Arrow.
Spellsinger; Level 2 Wizard, A Lamentation of Despairs, Divination Orb.
Spellsinger; Level 2 Wizard, Dispel Scroll,Divination Calaingor's Stave.
Glade Riders; Musician.
5 Wardancer Troupe; Musician.
3 Warhawk Riders
10 PD (+2 Bound spells)
6 DP (re-rollable)
1 Dispel scroll
The Spellweaver takes lore of life trying to go for (Gift of life, The howler Wind, The Rain Lord) While (Master of Wood/Stone) are nice for direct damage. Mistress of the Marsh is an awesome spell but is also the first on the list so don't really need to try and roll for it. This army has a decent magic phase (nothing like a 14PD re-rollable Tzeentch Lord on a Dragon) but with some character hunting and a bit of character sniping should be able to perform well late game.
That combined with my annoying habit of casting "Tree singing" 3-4 times with only 4 dice should see some use early on. But the real fun with this army is the combo of "Ariel's Blessing" (Regeneration) "Gift of life" (Heal all lost wounds) and the battle standard on the Treeman making him into a T6, six wound, 3+ save, 5+ ward save, stubborn, LD8 break test Re-rollable pain in the trunk (hopefully with Regeneration)
And every now and then getting healed back to 6 wounds. ;?
The two units of dryads are there too keep the treeman models out of combat with (cannon fodder) units. While the warhawk riders and fast cavalry fill the role of mage hunting, march blocking, baiting, warmachine hunting and countering enemy fast cavalry. The wardancer unit can bait and adds some extra punch.
Unfortunately said skaven player also has a habit of trying to go first for placing terrain. Placing a hill or placing something in a corner, letting his opponent place a piece of terrain then passing. Meaning effectively there are only two pieces of scenery on the table. And in both cases placed by the other player. Or in the best case scenario I go first place one piece, he places one in the corner, I place one, he passes and I place a final piece.
But because I am sneaky I've recently picked up the habit of bringing along 3 gaming forests. 6" diameter base with detachable trees so when in the worst case scenario
I only get to place two pieces there at least both forests and I get my +1 forest from woodland ambush. Meaning there are 3 forest on the board which is fine by me.
Both Spellsingers can hide in the 1 wood I can at least guarantee are on the board. Can zoom into the enemy units with tree singing making them go around, march block and generally be a pain. And can't be shot at since I'm pretty sure you can't see through 2" of wood to declare charges or shoot. And good luck too the mage hunters who try to move into the forest of mages that can cast multiple tree singing spells. The only thing I'm not sure about is dropping a dryad and the musician and taking the Wardancer troop 6 strong.
Anyway hopefully if the wall of text didn't cause you too pass out already I'd be interested in hearing any idea's on what you think
First off, can we get a Mod to move this to the Army List section? (Will try to come back and finish reading and provide good reply eckyl)
Armies: Wood Elves, High Elves
Warbands Campaign 07: 1st
San Antonio Alamo GT
Ty for moving it <3
First off, I would probably take the bow and arrows away from the BSB and find a way to protect her. Oaken armour, Amaranthine Brooch, or something that will keep her alive. Besides, I really think giving the BSB a magical bow is questionable.
Onto the level 2 wizards. The one with the scroll is good. The other, I would give a scroll also, and give him the deepwood sphere. Forget treesinging against enemies that come into your woods. Hit them all with a str5 attack.
I would also try to get the wardancer troupe up to 7 at least. Against shooting they will have trouble staying alive.
Thats my advice,
I'm going with Sirkently here, try to get the Wardancers up to at least seven, maybe, but not neccassry, you could give him a champion. I advice you to take the dryad unit to 8. Again I agrre with Sirkently, don't give the BSB a magic bow unless with a very good reason, give him something to let him live longer. I would take at least two dispell scrolls, maybe even three, one is really to low. As you can see, almost the same advice as Sirkently, good luck with the list8Y.
Well, from what you describe about this guy i had a first game with WE against a shooty empire army and like you started bragging about how his shooty army uses a lot of tactics(ok,point and shoot and move an inch to prevent a charge). Then he started talking about how WE suck. When I faced him again a month later i wiped the floor with his(tactic using)army so in other words i would be happy to help;Y.
As far as heroes they are different choices then what is seen on the forum but you wrote a whole strategy behind it so think those are solid. As troop choices is concerned you can out range him with longbows(i think)so get some glade guard and deploy them a couple of inches back and fire(2 units of 10 is ideal)that was a game winner for and warhawk riders. You have heroes on eagles so you got that. And good cheese the list out with 2 treemen and watch him complain, but you a casual player i would suggest not playing this list the whole time because this list doesnt exactly make friends.
