Hey guys, recently my local hobby shop posted a bulletin for a 500pt. tournament. While at first, I thought making a list would be simple; but I am finding its more difficult to make a 500pt list than say, a 2000 or 2250 pt list. I was simply wondering if anyone had any suggestions; I think a Forest Spirit might be more effective, as a 500 pt restriction kinda limits the amount of support one can take that I find pretty integral in a conventional army list. Nonetheless, I am open to any and all suggestions, and will appreciate any comments.
Can you give us a bit more information on the tourny, like are you using warband, border partol or normal army composition rules. Is it doubles battles, team battles or do you fight as a team. We might be able to help you a bit more. Forest spirits do quite well for me at small point games, but I don't think you should rule out asrai. If you are allowed try to get a alt. noble (if you don't need a general).
My apologies. It is a standard tournament; no special rules, no doubles, or anything like that. I would need to have an army general, however.
Okay, I had a go making a list and played it this morning, and I got a solid victory over an empire player.
Noble w/ great eagle, spear, shield, helm of the hunt
10 Glade Guard
7 Wardancers w/ musician
You can take any ideas you want, I found this list quite balanced. Hope it helps.
Im no expert WE player (i.e i havent actually played with them as a full army) But i hve faced them enough, and have their book, so ill give my input:
A unit of 10 Glade Guard is almost a must, that shooting is pretty amazing as shooting goes.
8 Dryads also, these things are a fantastic unit. Skirmishers, fantastic Statline, Ward save, cant ask for much more for so cheap pts wise.
Id say go with some Wild Riders, 5 should do for now. With Music (its free, why wouldnt you!) possibly Champ too but not necessary, these guys are pretty great in combat, im sure theyre not really elves...
Or go with Wardancers as above, but you have Skirmishers already, and the speed from this cav is scary when combined with their strangely good combat power.
Character selection is pretty important, you need to consider their role.
The best Noble is an Alter, for the speed and combat prowess. But he cant be your general.
A Spellsinger may be nice as a Lv2 mage, get some magic in. But Athel loren isnt the best of Lores.
So why not consider a Branchwraith? Join him to the Dryads, and give him the filthy Annoyance of Netlings Sprite. Possibly a Cluster of Radiants too... although... Do you have enough pts left for a Great eagle?
Edit: Yes you do! so dont bother with one of those Sprites, and get an Eagle. Maybe take the Dispel Dice over the AoNetlings, if you face another mage it will be useful. Few pts left, add in another Dryad or something, possibly a Dryad Champ. Definitely go for the Champ is the Wraith takes the Dispel dice.
Why is it whenever i look at making a list for an army i suddenly become very inclined to make it myself... Damn!

Pheonix, just so you know a branchwraith can't ride a great eagle (but god that'd be cool), I think that's what you meant, and duke, if you want you could go with 5 WR (with muso) instead of the wardancers as phoenix suggested for the same price, if that's your style, it all depends on personal preference.
Nooo... lol. BranchWriath in with the Dryads (think i said that) And an Eagle as a Rare choice
Oh right I though you meant as a mount.
Some good advice so far. My addition would be that the hail of doom arrow at 500 points can really mess with your opponent. A noble with the doom, a great weapon, helm of the hunt, light armour and shield, can get you pretty far. Otherwise, numbers are your friend. Dryads (2 units), glade guard, and an eagle fit in nicely.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
Wow sirkently, the last list I had made looked very similar to yours. I like the great eagle, as its both cheap and good for baiting charges. I might try some wardancers, I don't know. The versatility is nice. I'll playtest a few things, I appreciate the input guys.
