Welcome to Librarium Online!
Saturday I am going to fight with my Wood Elves versus a 1200pt High Elf army and I know I have to face a Dragon Mage. I'm trying to base my list on defeating the dragon, but I don't know how. Please help me out, I hope I can win with YOUR help.
please reply, I need my list done this week!
I'm thinking of putting in 2 units of dryads, 1 or 2 units of GG, and wardancers, maybe a treeman, but thats dangerous with a fire mage.
I'd take a B-Wraith radient caddy for certain. I think that if you can catch him with a netling specced B-Wraith you have a good chance of knocking him off.
I always run Dryads. The only question is how many. Their high toughness might save them in combat against the HE always strike first rules as well. (depends on what he is fielding) You can also use them to screen GG if you are using those.
Speaking of GG, 20 GG and an HoDA can probably knock him off right good w/o getting into combat with the dragon. Glade Guard would also give you options against Blade Masters; my experience is that those things are terrifying.
Bear in mind, if you take a treeman, your treeman can hide in your free woods. You can then turtle and try getting him within 16 inches of that wood. If he does march out, strangle root, HoDA, and unload w/ GG. That should kill his mage right good. They do not have good ward saves; I think the best they can take at that level is 5+ and that probably won't save his fleshy hide.
Sounds good! WE are REALLY competetive at low point games, because our problem armies don't have the points to field their scary stuff. I would just shoot the ever loving crud (censored for forums) out of his dragon and hope it explodes. If you're taking a treeman, BSB is a decent idea too (this works well with fielding the HoDA).
I'm not familiar with smaller games like this, so bear that in mind.
Gnomish has some good advice already as far as tactics go.
I would try and bring the standard Alter Noble and A Wardancer Noble w/ Amber Pendant. Make those Highelves always strike last!
And I'd bet a dollar that he'll target those burnable units with that Dragon-thing. keep that in mind when you lay your traps.
At 1200pts he cannot take a lord (thankfully). Take lost of glade guard and glade riders. A hero level character should be fairly easy to kill, an Alter noble with Hail of Doom Arrows should be able to take care of it himself if he shoots then charges it next turn.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
Thanks for the tips, I did not beat him, but maybe that is because he plays for 5 years and I play a 1half year XD
But it was a cool batlle
