Have a 1000 point tag team tourney coming up in a week with random partner assignment...
Was considering a tree only list, and wondering if it could be effective....? Was trying to think of a kind of cool theme more so than anything else, but didn't want to get owned by the complete lack of shooting (and no HODA or alter noble!)
General: Branchwraith, level one, cluster of radiants, annoyance of netlings
total: 998 points, 3 casting pool, 4 dispel pool
so my big question... could all trees work at 1k??????
any suggestions on how to run such a list - especially given I don't choose my partner?
At 1k, I think forest spirit lists are viable. They're fast and hard-hitting. If those you play against tend to use lots of magic, it might not be worth it however.
A treeman might be a bit much for a 1k list depending on how competitive your club is.
"...and thee shall know the Emperor's might when thy enemies fall before thy guns. No crude Orkish blade can pierce thy anointed armor, nor any twisted alien resist the sting of thy sword." ~Major Kaelen Rhodes
Treekin are a little too expensive for me in a 1k list, especially with a treeman also. I would drop them for wardancers who work great at this level or wild riders if you want to stick with the forest spirit theme. I think it could work well, but your partner may be a little annoyed with you. He will think great, wood elves will give him some great shooting support, then when he sees your list, smack you upside the head.
I would also get a branchnymph for the unit the wraith will be in.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
My main concerns were no shooting and few units, but figured that close combat could be pretty brutal between the dryads and big trees...
have wild riders, wardancers, and pretty much a selection of all the other WE options, however was trying for something somewhat different... but I just don't know how competitive the list would be - and trying something strange may make the partner not too happy....
due to low signup they are considering switching to a 5-6 game 1000 point tourney... which may really make a difference here... the treeman may seem a little beardy in that case - although with our local demon and vamp players (and a former GT champ entering as well for that matter) I may need all the help I can get
I have had -incredible- luck with Dryads at 1K. They are amazing. I usually run them with LD 9+ and a BSB though; just because, even with their awesome stats, it can be hard for them to win on their own.
Most people can't field a whole bunch of death star units, and many of the smaller core choices cannot handle it if they are out flanked by Dryads. They can even reliably take Trolls, if you have a BSB with a decent leadership base.
It's the really elite infantry you'll have to worry about. Treemen and treekin can do it.
Hmmm... when I think about it, I don't if I would take the treekin though. I'd take either wild riders, glade guard, or maybe just do a dryad swarm.
I mean, you end up fighting a heavy infantry list (i.e. elves or chaos) you'd probably be glad of them! But, they are a liability against some lists, and a points sink. And since you have no grind out potential (i.e., universal LD8 and no BS, you are -really- going to need to break ranks. I would probably want something to do that. Treekin are not going to be able to do much except smash people in the front.
