I'm trying to build a competitive Wood Elf Army with the new set of rules. A lot of things changed, and some of the old tactics are not valid anymore! So here's the deal:
2000 Pts - Wood Elves Army
1 * Alter Highborn @ 266 Pts
Alter; Great Weapon; Longbow
Bow of Loren
Arcane Bodkins
Helm of the Hunt 1 Noble @ 177 PtsThe MachineArrowElf! The fact of being Alter gives him +1 Attack that can be used with Bow Of Loren, making 5 shots a turn by only one single Elf with BS 6, with No ArSaving Allowed! WoW! The Helm of Hunt gives him +1 Attack on charge, with GtWp, making 6 ST 6 attacks on charge, with WS 7 or 8!! WoW! Just to good to misuse!
Longbow; Light Armour
Hunter's Talon
Pageant of Skrikes
---------1 Great Eagle @ Pts1 Noble @ 105 PtsThis is the HunterElf! With Hunter's Talon and Pageant of Shrikes this Elf can shoot out some Mages and so that are lost in the battlefield, or hidden in any unit! The Great Eagle gives him the chance to fly 20" over the enemy lines, to shoot any Mages that are hidden behind any troop lines.
Hail of Doom Arrow 1 Spellsinger @ 140 PtsI need a Character to use the Hail of Boom! I could use a Mage for the effect but if so my General would have to be the Noble in the Eagle, and make exposure of 100 VPs and ran away with the LD radius. So, this would give me more BS for the Boom Arrow effect and a General near the troops. In the first I gave this Character a Scout Kindred, and then an Eternal Guard Kindred... but I only found a waste of points for it!
Magic Level 1; Lore of Athel Loren; Longbow
Dispel Scroll
Dispel Scroll 10 Glade Guard @ 120 PtsScroll Caddie!
10 Glade Guard @ 120 Pts
Longbow9 Dryads @ 108 PtsShooting Squad!
9 Dryads @ 108 Pts15 Eternal Guard @ 222 PtsGround Support!
1 Guardian @ Pts6 Wardancers @ 108 PtsThe Anvil Unit! With the loss of the Dryad Aspects the Woodies now need RnF troops for CR and charging support!
Wardancer Weapons3 Warhawk Riders @ 120 PtsThey're still good as Hell!!
3 Warhawk @ Pts1 Treeman @ 285 PtsFor the same points I could use 5 Glade Riders! As FastCav with Sp+LBow they come pretty usefull as Rank Removal unit! But the Warhawk Riders with the hit&run became stronger! So, Warhawks or Elfen Steeds?!5 Waywatchers @ 120 PtsJust use it!
2ndWeapon; LongbowCasting Pool: 3They're become deadlier than ever! Yeah, long live the true WoodElves!!
Dispel Pool: 3
Models in Army: 74
Total Army Cost: 1999
So, what's the deal?!
You think everything comes easy, and things should be free
That is the exact opposite of me
If I don’t break a sweat, then I’m not pleased
Every favor I do, I expect returned to me
110% everyday, anything less, nah no f.ckin way
I’m pushin hard, but it takes time
Always lookin out for mine!-MENTAL-
BOSTON x STRAIGHT x EDGE
Too many caracters to my taste, I would drop the noble with the hail of doom arrow, 105 pts for a one tirck pony 3d6 shots isn't worth it IMO.
the highborn combo is neat, but van you waste is Ld 9. also for being alter, he gets I 9, you might want to ive him a weapon to strike with is Initiative really.
the dryads and glade guard are good (maybe a musician of the guard?), but the eternal guard could use some more bodies, 15 is too thin for T3 5+ save models, they might break to fear too easely.
As for the steeds, go for them. They are the only fast unit in your current armylist that can remove ranks, plus they have more bows.
I don't like the waywatchers, at 24 pts, they only get KB at short range, and makes them too expensive to be effective shock troops either. for nearly the same pirce you could get a unit of wild riders!
drop the hero char (the lord is kickass btw stick him in the eternal guard or glade guard to make use of ld).
Wolf is right, more eternal guard would be nice.
I think if u include a tree man than u don't really need the dryads, put in more glade guard.
Maybe some glade riders?
"Heresy is like a garden weed, it won't stop feeding until you... BURN THE WHOLE DAMN GARDEN WITH A FLAMER, BURN IT, BURN IT TO HELL!!!!!" "Is there a wittle puppy in the garden? ITS A DAEMON! BURN IT!"
all of your characters are extremely easy to kill. your heros would die easily in challenges and your lord could get shot down if your not careful. i would give him the enchanted shield and some light armor. then he would have a 3+ save, which isnt good but its respectable. he is very cool and i might be tempted to try that in a game. you better be able to take out all models in contact with you character before your opponent can attack.
maybe take the thing that makes your opponents auto-stike last. that means your great weapon wielding dude can go first. you would have to drop helm of the hunt though. then he would be much more resiliant in coming rounds of combat.
When you combine Speed and Power you get Lightning.
I dont know how you like to run Wood elves and i dont play them.... but this guy i know does and he uses a whole bunch of dryads (12 points, skirmish, cause fear, immune to psychology, 5+ ward, ws4, s4, t4, 2 atks WAHTS NOT TO LIKE?)
About your lord ... why does no one get armor vs those shots?
i know there is a magic arrow ... but can they be shot out of a magic bow? there is a arrow that allows no armor i think.
Just some pointers from a friends point of view
