Okay, if you're going to use eternal guard, then I'd do this:

At the very least use a noble who will go with the guard. This makes them stubborn. That gives you two stubborn units, the treeman (or ancient) and the EG.

Even better, make the noble a BSB with the oaken armour. Now you have two stubborn units that can reroll break tests.

If you want EG, I'd also use the Treekin. Having the treekin, EG, and treeman as a battle line is formiddable indeed.

Keep the warhawks. They will marchblock units you don't want to engage and can handle warmachines and the like. And definitely keep two units of dryads, but eight is enough IMO.

    So far, I'd say this...
20 EG with full command and war banner along with a BSB who had a mundane banner (in the 7th ed rules, battle standards stack with reg banners so that's +3 to CR from banners alone!)
    3 treekin
    1 treeman
    8 dryads
    8 dryads
    3 warhawks
    8 wardancers, mus, champ

Pare down the the wardancer unit. I do use 9 sometimes, but 10 is a lot of points in case they get blasted to bits. Add a musician and a champion here. I don't always advocate champions but with wardancers that extra attack adds even more.

I don't like waywatchers and think that you need more than 5 for them to be effective. You need as many chances to roll 6's as possible. Myself, I love an eagle for 50 pts.

    So now...
    3 treekin
    1 treeman
    8 dryads
    8 dryads
    3 warhawks
    8 wardancers, mus, champ
    1 eagle

As for heroes, I like that you take just three. But which three is tough. I largely ignore magic with my list, both offensively and defensively (I use only a lvl 1 branchwraith with a cluster and the annoyance as my general) and have been winning most of my games with this particular list.

But if you want more magic protection, then the BW with cluster and a lvl 1 singer with two scrolls. If you want offensive then take the weaver and the BW. But I like your alter highborn. You've given him a great combo. I use almost the same thing, and I also run an alter noble. The two of them together almost single-handedly won my last game, against dwarfs.

If you have points, some fast cav (especially wild riders) would add even more versatility and punch to your list.

I prefer the once with the ancient, but I think the 2nd one could be really good if you lowered the number of eternal guard. 29 is a whole lot for 2000 pts.

20 or so. If you're putting a character in there, some people will use 19 since the character fills a slot. You can use the extra points on some fast cav if you've got the models.
