    2000 pts for a Tournament

    Hello all!

I am preparing for an upcomming tournament (April 21st) and need to figure out the rest of my wood elf army.

So far the only models I have are as follows:
    Wardancer Nobel
    20 Glade Guard
    8 Glade Riders
    10 Dryads

As I don't like wasting money, these must be used, but everything else is fair game!
    • Highborn
      -Wardancer Kindred
      -Moonstone of Hidden Ways
    • Nobel
      -Light Armour
      -Great Weapon
      -Hail of Doom Arrow
    • Spellsinger
      -Level 2
      -Calaingors Stave
    • Spellsinger
      -Staff of Sorcery
    • 10 Glade Guard
      -Glade Guard Longbows
    • 10 Glade Guard
      -Glade Guard Longbows
    • 10 Glade Guard
      -Glade Guard Longbows
    • 8 Scouts
    • 8 Glade Riders
      -Musician
    • 10 Dryads
    • 7 Wardancers
      -Musician
    • 7 Wardancers
      -Musician
    • Treeman

    Thia comes to 1999 pts.

    What do you guys think?

The only change I'd really suggest is to remove one spellsinger and add a branchwraith with a cluster of radiants. More dispel dice and more combat power, at the price of one less spell.

    Where will your noble go?

    Thanks for the response!

I'm not sure, I was originaly going to get some EG, but didn't have the points in the end...

I mainly have him fot the HoDA, then he may just stick with some GG and shoot at stuff/ stop them from getting runover in CC...

    any suggestions would be great!

You could make him a scouting noble to add some punch there.

Also, if there were points for musicians on the GG (or at least the GRs), I'd spring for them.

I use a list that's rather like yours (except for the characters) and it does really well. I wouldn't add EG. They'll slow you down and lock you into one style of fighting.

      -Wardancer Kindred
      -Moonstone of Hidden Ways

    Hero
    • Nobel
      -Light Armour
      -Great Weapon
      -Hail of Doom Arrow
    • Spellsinger
      -Level 2
      -Calaingors Stave
    • Branchwraith
      -Level 1
      -Cluster of Radiant Sprites

    Core
    • 10 Glade Guard
      -Glade Guard Longbows
    • 10 Glade Guard
      -Glade Guard Longbows
    • 10 Glade Guard
      -Glade Guard Longbows
    • 8 Scouts
    • 8 Glade Riders
      -Musician
    • 10 Dryads

    Special
    • 7 Wardancers
      -Musician
    • 7 Wardancers
      -Musician

    Rare
    • Treeman

This still comes to 1999 pts.

I am thinking of switching around the Highborn and Nobel so I can incoperate the Bow of Loren/ Arcane Bodkins mix to take down heavy armoured foes...

If I had the models, this is what I'd do...

    Highborn same
    Noble same
    Spellsinger, lvl 1, Calaignor's Stave
You don't have much offensive magic anyway. Only five power dice and one bound spell. Since you're carrying Calaignor's Stave, you must be planning on a lot of treesinging. With one less power dice you basically give up one more chance at casting the spell, but just on one die.

With five dice, you'll probably have the BW use one of the army die, leaving the other to the singer to use either to cast TS twice with one and two dice or to cast it just once with all remaining dice. Then the treeman adds another auto-cast.

With four dice, the BW can use two dice, the singer can use two dice, and the treeman still has his auto-cast.

    BW same

    GG x 10 mus
    GG x 10 mus
Musicians are great for rallying fleeing units. I don't know if it's bad luck or what, but my archers fail more rally tests than seems right for a unit with Ld 8.
    GG x 10
    Scouts x 8
    GR x 6 mus
I've read lots and lots of advice that five to six is an optimal size for GRs. After all, they do tend to die easily, so why give up points for a couple more bow shots. Having finally played a few games with my GRs, I agree that 6 is a solid size for game play.
    Dry x 8
    Dry x 8
Having two units of these bad bitches means a lot more killing power, more fear causing units, more flank charges, more threats, and redundancy.

    WD same
    WD same

    Treeman

I wouldn't drop the WDs or the TM for anything. They're incredible in combat. I almost always take the same units in my 2000 pt lists. And the Moonstone is a wicked surprise for your enemy. Place your free forest stand in the right spot and pop across the board at the most inconvenient moment for your opponent. I love it when they ask, "Do I get a chance to dispel that?"

    Here's another idea...
    TM ancient, Annoyance of Netlings
    BW same
    Wardancer noble, moonstone
    Singer, lvl 2, stave

    GG x 10 mus
    GG x 10 mus
    GG x 10
    Scouts x 8 mus
    GR x 6 mus
    Dry x 8
    Dry x 8

    WD x7 mus
    WD x7 mus

And some points to spare, I think. Eagles are great units that would add a lot.

This list gives you a lot better magic phase and an even more survivable treeman. His improved leadership and two bound spells mean a lot. With the AoN, he's damned hard to kill.

It gives up the HoDA, which is a big loss IMO. That's a great weapon, but you know, the spellsinger can take. Poke her in a WD unit and let her surprise the enemy with a nasty stand and shoot reaction.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.

Here's some changes I made after playing my first few games:

    Lord
    • Highborn
      -Bow of Loren
      -Arcane Bodkins
      -Briarsheath

    Hero
    • Nobel
      -Wardancer Kindred
      -Moonstone of the Hidden Ways
    • Spellsinger
      -Level 1
      -2 Dispell Scrolls
    • Branchwraith
      -Level 1
      -Cluster of Radiant Sprites

    Core
    • 10 Glade Guard
      -Glade Guard Longbows
    • 10 Glade Guard
      -Glade Guard Longbows
    • 10 Glade Guard
      -Glade Guard Longbows
    • 8 Glade Riders
      -Musician
    • 10 Dryads
    • 10 Dryads

    Special
    • 7 Wardancers
      -Musician
    • 7 Wardancers
      -Musician

    Rare
    • Treeman

    Power Dice: 4
    Dispell Dice: 5 + 2 Scrolls
This still comes to 1992 pts

I'm thinking of some way to include Wild Riders... I may proxie them for a couple games as they seem so destructive! Also I included another squad of Dryads as there tough as nails and dropped the scout squad as they were a waste of points (at least for me).

Any tips and tricks would be great!

Well, I really like the list. Of course, that may be because it's almost identical to one I use with the only exception being that I use just three characters and pop for more models.
