So I was reading the entry for Hit and Run tonight and looked at something I hadn't paid much attention to before.
The rules read that the hawks automatically rally at the end of their "fall back move." That suggests that they rally right after falling back and not at the beginning of their next turn.
If that's correct, it'd be huge because they could move, charge, or shoot in the next turn.
Even better, no matter whether they do it voluntarily or from a failed break check the enemy unit may not pursue.
Warhawk riders are seriously one of my favourite units in the WE army.
You would be right. As Skars said, Warhawks are easily one of the most underrated units in the WE army. I love the little bird-surfers like they was my own bird-surfing children.
To clarify - On the turn they charge, warhawks automatically flee if the combat is drawn or lost. No break check required. But yeah, in the next turn they are free to act normally, having rallied immediately.
Try to think of it as a dive bomb rather than a charge. They fly in, slash and stab the enemy, the enemy slash back a bit and the hawks have made their pass and are away
of course the delay potential of war hawks has probably just jumped up even higher in my books O_O
spambot kill tally: 79

do they fall back 3d6 or 20"?
and is it directly back from the line like a flee would be?
Wood Elves Record (since i started counting)
Below 1000pts: 1-0-0
1000 - 1999pts: 5-2-2
Above 2000pts: 7-1-0
hadn't thought about it but I guess they would as they rally after the fall back.
What about if the fall back went through impassable terrain and out the other side? Do they fly over it or into it and die?
Well, the rules state that the fall back is treated as fleeing, and fleeing units that end their flee in impassable terrain are broken and removed from the game. For flyers, that includes landing in trees.
