Asrai: Shooting masters of death
Forest spirits: Fear causing close combat beasts
Both: Kill stuff in every field
as a personal opinion which do you think is better Asrai or Forest Spirits or both?
Note that wild riders are forest spirits.
I'm just curious.
Probably the best army will be a mixed army but I voted for Asrai only just because I love the look of these guys. They are skillful and look great...that and I'm not a huge fan of giant trees, unless they are used to make my woodland palace or for arrows! :C
I voted mixed because it is the most balanced.....and lets face it elves with giant trees looks cool on the tabletop.
Absolutely both. My question is, why would you ever limit yourself to one and not the other? Both the Asrai and Forest Spirits have some very strong components.
It really displays the realtionship of Althel Loren well. Forest Spirits and Asrai working together.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
Ya know, the elves do more than just shoot. My EG and Wardancers are my big combat units. The only forest spirits I have are 2 units of dryads for skirmish screens
That's what I thought...
And admit it, even if for nothing else treemen will draw fire
However a treeman is an expensive Fire- magnet.
Plus both of the armies models are so cool!;Y
Both aspects of the army have thier strengths and weaknesses.
Speed, find me a faster army, with at least 75% of the army being Fast Cavalry, Skirmishers or Flyers. Also the ability to walk through forests without hindrance.
Archery, the BEST archers in the Warhammer World, without question. It's hard to beat them at a shooting contest, just watch out for return fire, it's not nice.
Magic, ths one's a bit debatable, but I figured that they are Elves, so it makes sense to mention this. Also, bear in mind that no army can modify the board in the way the Wood Elves can.
Fragility, Even the characters are toughness 3, and the best Asrai Armour save is 5+ (it's probably possible to get a 3+ save on hte characters but thats eside the point). Wood Elves die easily.
Combat deficiency, Only 2 Asrai units can gain rank bonuses in combat- the Glade Guard (who shouldn't even be in combat), and the Eternal Guard (well, they're just good). Also it's likely that they'll be outnumbered. There you go, they've lost the combat by 4 before any dice are even rolled.
Numbers, The cheapest Wood Elf model is 12 points. You WILL be outnumbered.
Resilience, Every Forest Spirit unit (except the Wild Riders) has a Toughness value of at least 4, and a 5+ Ward Save. These guys don't die easily.
Speed, as above.
Combet prowess, Fear-causing monsters with a ton of attacks. On the charge, they are hard to beat, Dryads are also notoriously deadly in prolonged combats. Just don't let them get charged(OK, the Treeman can break this rule). Also watch out for outnumbering and too many ranks.
Psychology, All Forest Spirits vause at least Fear at some point. This can dramatically alter the game. How many games have you stuffed up because of a botched Fear test? Well, now you can impose this back on your opponent. Also they're immune to it, which is good, but it means they can't flee as a charge reaction.
Range- Only the Treeman and Elf characters have any ranged attacks, so don't get in any shooting batles.
Numbers, As above.
So, to sum it up:
Take both, to mix strengths and weaknesses to gain the true balanced force. Also, if you get bored of winning too often, you can limit yourself to just Asrai or just Forest Spirits for a challenge. And when your truly bored, you can play against yourself to decide who gets true ownership of the forest.
