Has any body tried the sniper noble/highborne. Where he is on an eagle with the hunter talon and pageant of strikes where he will get 2 shoots and he may pick out the characters. I can see where he will be weak to shooting ,and magic missles. He will also need to be at 18 inchs. But scroll cadies and any hero where there's no armour you should be able to take them out. Plus if you take a scroll cady you should be able to hold the enemy's magic for 1 round.
I havn't tried it on an eagle but have done it on foot. It works a treat but I prefer my other Hero options.
Great at taking out necromancers in a VC army. It's amazing how crap that army can be with no casters.
For me, it's too many rolls. First to hit. Then to wound. And then potentially against some kind of save.
If I knew what army I was facing, then it could be worth it. I just think there are more potent shooting combos for WEs.
I can see other combos as far as the highborne goes with 100 points. But what other combo under 50 points can you do more than 1 round. The hail of doom arrow is a great item but it is a one shot deal. The bow of loren is good and gives you one more shot. But you can't pick characters out. Most of the armies will have a weaker character in its list and even if they don't there will be champions in basic units. You might not swing a game one way or the other by killing a champion but you will make a player think and some times that will leads to mistakes.
Well, you have mentioned a couple alternates that work really well.
The point of the kit for the sniper is to kill mages/soft characters can be done in a variety of ways and isn't really that reliable.
You have hit the nail on the head with range. The range of the two is disparate, 18" is too close for comfort. The shot from the Hunter's Talon is still strength 3 so not great odds.
To kill mages and the like I would rather send in a small unit of dryads or a unit of warhawk riders as they have practical applications against a wide variety of armies.
I guess what I am saying is that the combo is too dependant on the opponent your facing.
If you want real character-killing power, try:
Spear of Twilight
Helm of the Hunt
Light armour, shield etc
He identifies a potentially lethal character (in a unit or otherwise) and charges straight in. Focus all attacks on the nasty character and, with luck, you will have one dead character. Hope you flee, before rallying next turn (risky though, if the enemy's mounted).
He's also good at taking out warmachines, should the need arise.
Otherwise, I'm not sure I'd take snipers. Sure, there is some coll stuff out there that you can use, but it's expensive and only has one use- shooting characters. Granted, if you tried this against Tomb Kings or VS's you'd pretty much win entirely because of that. Otherwise, it's too specific for me.
The main prob with using that is that against a large amount of stuff that you would want to kill it just wont be enough. Even against most mages he is going to struggle. And then there the fact that it does cost a fair amount and he wont survive any return fire. Could be fun to just fly him around and pop unit champs i guess.
Essencaily its a decent combo, but in the end, WE have far better and he will struggle to make his points back before he becomes a bloody lump of feathers and arrows/magical energy on the ground.
