Just thought I'd pick some brains on how to dead with this unit that the VC player in my gaming group uses, everything I've tried bounces off it. It's 5 blood knights complete with standard and flag of blood keep (4+ ward save against shooting), with BSB with Drakenof Banner (Regeneration for the unit) complete with a tooled up vampire lord. Trying to direct charges of this unit with glade riders has some limited sucess, but it's only a metter of time until it can charge other units and wipe them out. The player also use the ghoul delivery system to have a vampire or 2 charing on his first turn, so i've other concerns too, but neutralizing this unit is my top priority. Thanks.
Well Blood Knights are though, very though with the items he gave them. Normally I would say that the Alter HB with BoL Arcane Bodins and Glamourweave would work best, but with that bloody 4+ ward sava and regeneration, it won't work at all.
So what to take:C, I think one way to beat them is with the WW and theire KB ability, let's see if they can save that. What saves has the Vamp? I think you could beat that bastard with a HB w/AoN,HotH,Rageth's Wildfire Blades, Alter Kindred,Amber Pendant, Enchanted SH. You defenitely want to challenge the Vamp, you should be able to at least hurt him quite hard, he has 6/7A at S4, WS7,he has a 3+ AS and the Vamp will only hit on 6's!!! I have thought of if he has a regen save then thi wouldnt count with Rageth's, if he hasnt then you could swith it for another HW or GW.
Last time he had the lord with a dread Lance (auto hit), red fury (extra attack for each would inflicted), Beguile (reroll to would unless you pass a ld test -3), Talisman of protectio (6+ ward save), Gem of blood (on a 2+ first would is robounded against the attacked 1 use only)
Damn't, then is the B-E-A-utifull AoN totally useless. To be honoust, I don't have an idea how to handle that Lord.
In the FAQ, it says you still need a 6 to hit vs the netlings, even with an auto-hit weapon. Doesn't really make sense to me, but thats how it is.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
I'd still use the arcane bodkins/BoL combo. I usually run two Alters next too each other, bait the BK's out, then hit in the flank with two Alters carrying great weapons. 1 blood knight cant handle 10 St6 attacks, as long as you kill 1, you cant be attacked back, and if one has the amber pendant, each round you're starting the combat with your great weapons. Cav units get demolished if they're hit in the flank.
BKs are frenzied. I would rejoice no end if I had a VCs opponent who used them.
A skilled player will easily lead them on a merry dance around the board with GRs. If you're really good, you could get them into combat with some WDs (with a Highborn sporting Netlings, Blades of Loec and the Stone of Crystal Mere- bye bye Vampire). Otherwsie, a flank charge of some WRs, Dryads, Tree Kin etc should work (I assume they still crumble?).
AFG is 100% correct, frenzied troops are very easy to deal with and not really a problem. This is why the inclusion of units like eagles is vital in a 'take all comers' list.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
Played the same VC player tonight and once again he took this unit of death, I did what any good wood elf player would do and gave them the run around, and managed a victory. But there is more luck than skill involved in this tactic.
They may be frenzied but that only means they have to charge, it doesn't mean they have to charge the closest unit. He supported the blood knights with a unit of fel bats which I was able to take out with a unit of wild riders, but only a lucky cast of "The beast cowers" prevented me getting charged in return.
Annoyance of Netlings is not a sound strategy either as it clearly states in the WE eratta this with an always hits weapon vs hits on 6's it's a dice off to decide which takes presidence.
Maybe you could expand on the alter tactice that was mentioned, as against a fear causing enemy outnumbered isn't even an option without Immune to psychology.
Thanks again guys, keep brainstorming.
The thing to remember here, is that the BKs are a point and click hammer. There are a few different tactics he can employ in deploying, but once they go they go. On the other hand, your counters are finesse moves that require practice and experience. I think your games against him will continue to improve as you get better at redirecting and manipulating them.
