First off, I'm not whining. While I haven't played the newly released Daemons or VC, I haven't been away from my WE for that long. Moreover, I think that WEs play very well under 7th edition rules, and while I miss never being blocked as a skirmisher, I have no real complaints.
But--and there's always a but--if we could influence a 7th edition rewrite of the army book, what would you want?
All the new army books have two constant features. They have cheaper troops, so units like Glade Guard, Glade Riders, and who knows, maybe even Dryads, would be easier to field. And we'd have some nice special characters.
It's hard to imagine them having better special rules than they have now, but it'd be cool if they could see 4" in the woods and had better magic.
Anyhow, what are you ideas for a rewrite, whether mild or wild?
I'd say 4" LoS in forests, but losing the Free Forest/
As for what I can predict:
*A HoDA that won't be 1 use only
*Netlings down to 20pts
*Maybe a supercool new Kindred
*A Special Character of this new Kindred
*More Special characters
I don't like the see 4" in Woods, but how often is it likely to come up? I am also not a fan of the "I can shoot you, but you can't shoot me" thing. I think Wood Elves adding an extra +1 modifier to the bonus granted from forest cover would be good.
Make Glade riders a little less expensive.
Remove the restriction on Lores for Spellsingers, leave that for the Branchwraiths. Let all "elf" casters have access to Life, Beasts, Athel Loren. Even some of the other Lores would be approriate.
HoDA - sorry, but that should stay a one use only. It is way too good.
Give Eternal Characters the Stubborn rule.
Make the characters a little less expensive, the lack of armour is a big deal.
Characters should have all the rules of their Kin. I.E. , wildriders characters should have Fast Cav as a rule. In fact, all mounted characters should be Fast Cav.
I think Glade Guard are a little expensive in the current ruleset. But with the cost of HE bowmen we really can't complain too much.
Let Waywatchers have Leathal Shot, at any range.

I agree with what has been posted so far for the most part.
What I would add:
*Better magic items, especially banners
*A +1 to the roll to see who goes first
*The forest spirit ward save working always
*Wardancers having a 9 leadership
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
Everyone's dead on.
Ward saves to match the demons would be huge. +1 to go first is a good idea, as is better banners.
Skars is also on the bullseye with his comments.
As for special characters, I think Ariel needs some serious retooling. She's way too defensive. And I want a Treeman Character that's current and legal.
warhawk riders - move them to core & limit how many units you can take
waywatchers - cost lowered, or another ability
magic - 24" range, better spells
wildriders with hatred on 1st round of combat that they charge *dreams*
a special character that looks like the front of the army book !
sprites/fairies n stuff

As been stated make the Forest Spirit ward save a true ward save.
Why use science and education when ignorance and superstition will work just as well.
