Well my introduction to daemons was quite rude. I played a 3000pt game with my "take all comers list" against a 3000pt Tzeentch heavy list.
I had 5 Dispel dice and 2 scrolls. He had 19 PD.
Things that hurt.
Heralds joining horror units improve their invulnerable save.
All tzeentch stuff has flaming attacks.
Flamers are really nasty and screamers are absolutely viscious. My dryads got slaughtered very easily, all my forest spirit stuff died. Short of going heavy on magic defence I really couldn't do much else. The 4+ ward save of most of the daemon units is very, very nasty.
Anyone with any ideas about what to do here are the standard "mage killing" tactics don't really wash?
Ugh, I hate to hear that. I haven't played the new demons yet, but I bet that I'm going to at the team tourney next weekend. Hopefully, I'll get a chance Tuesday night, but I don't know yet.
They do worry me, to be honest. I'm anxious to hear what people have to say.
i played a tzeentch army ( 2000 points ) last week it had 14 power dice, my 3 dispel dice and two scrolls were just not up to it ,on his first spell (fire wall) i hsd to use one of my dispel scrolls or see my general's unit of glade gaurdl take a S 4 hit each .
one thing to look out for dave is the blue scribes, every time you cast a spell sucessfuly the deamon player gets a free power dice in his own turn of magic
Wood elf player- 2000 points worth, Autumn theme
Empire player - 3000 points worth, Green and white
Eldar player - 1500 points worth, Blue and white
Daemons are very ouch. I have played 5 games so far against them ( a khorne/tzeentch list, heavy on the khorne.) 4 were massacres and solid losses, one was a draw in my favor, and that was only because he forgot about his flesh hounds for 3 turns.
Besides just the ability to dominate the magic phase with tzeentch, the mobility and speed that a daemons list can muster puts woodelves to shame. 'oving through woods is great and all, but when your opponent has numerous units that can either fly over, or are fast enough to go around, it doesnt mean much.
for an example, my opponent uses a relatively balanced list, but flying heralds of tzeentch, flying skirmishing furie screens, fiends that march and charge 20 inches, flesh hounds that destroy what they touch, and screamers, make for an enemy that can rip skirmishing woodelf armies apart.
"I am the architect of fate!"
I found that flamers tore through my guys, all those strength 4 shots just tore me apart. The screamers being able to attack every unit they fly over with strength 5 auto hitting attacks slaughtered my wardancers and wildriders.
A bit off topic, but I played VC tonight. Had a really tough time. Magic was too strong, shooting pointless against ranked units (he had no small ones to pick at). I did kill 9 black knights but it took three units and cost me my general.
I may have to make some profoud changes to deal with these new books.
