Welcome to Librarium Online!
i'm being challenged by a friend of mine for a elf battle my wood elves against his darl elves.
i'm fairly new to wh fantasy so i haven't played alot armies yet.
is there anything i should do or shouldn't do?i'd just like some advice on what you guys would do when playing against DE.
well magic needs to be shut down se try to dispel his extra PD spell at all costs and bring some Dispel scrolls
What point lvl you playing at?
where 1500 pnts
got any ideas how to shut the magic down?
cos i just started playing warhammer fantasy and still hav to find my way into this
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
thanks for the help
i'll give it a go.
Since you are just starting, the most basic advice I can give you is not to engage a large unit of black guard in H2h if you can help it. Same goes for a Hydra. (Treekins might be an exception to this advice, not sure). Black guard I shoot, Hydras I keep march blocked. For stopping his magic, I would suggest a sniper noble. You can reasonable kill a level 2 mage in a turn, or scare a level 4 into hiding. They will always out dice you, and I am not entirely sold on the idea of going magic heavy with WE. Killing the mages is a good option for magic defence in a WE list.
marchblock a hydra? i would expect anything close to it to get toasted next turn by that unholy potentially S5 template of doom.
The real threat to a great eagle is Xbow men and spells. You really need to have them controlled to be able to march block a hydra all game.
My best friend is trying to get into the game, and plays darkelves. We are also planning for a doubles tournament, so I'm kinda learning how to play them too.
His shooting is good, but it isn't that good. Skirmishers are good at minimizing the shooting damage (skirmisher+long range+moving = hitting on 6s. + light cover, hititng on 7s. His Bolt throwers are probably the only thing you REALLY need to worry about if you are careful.
They definatly do not like getting shot at either, as their troops are almost as expensive as ours, and a bit weaker to it than ours.
Wild Riders are pretty good for taking down the hydra. Given the warbanner, the unit can do 3 points of static res a turn. There is also a chance you might be able to bait it out and set up a flank charge, which has a really good chance of smashing through it.
I don't think the Hydra's breath is all that scarey. Dryads are T4 and skirmished, meaning that they can be positioned far enough apart that the template doesn't hit so many. and they still get the wardsaves. The flames are only really a threat to treekin
Their magic can be nasty, but it is all DD an thus the magic resistence of your wardancers and wildriers can be exploited. It also creates a situation where a unicorn can be helpful.
Also, their magic defence is not ushually considered. they have some cheap magic resistence items that they can give to champions, and they can add +1 to their dispel pool, but if they opt for those their offence will suffer. so, you should be able to get some tree-signing off if you bring enough casting power/treemen. moving tree's is a good way to mess with the DE Plans.
Always bring a treeman.
Their Combat stuff is, for the most part, much better than ours. avoid if possible, smash with multiple units from flanks ect.
it's a fun matchup to play
Hmm. Dark Elves in general are vulnerable to concentrated shooting. Focus on elite infantry like Black Guard, Executioners and Witch Elves. Also, try to knock ranks off of Spearmen and Corsair units. Cold one Knights will absorb much shooting, so I wouldn't waste your arrows on them unless you really have to. Waywatchers are excellent at taking out Bolt Thrower crews.
Don't let them charge you - they have hatred, so you'll lose. You need to get your attacks in first, to thin their numbers. Usual Wood Elf tactics still apply (hitting enemy units with several of your own units at once). A Treeman can go toe-to-toe with a Hydra once you get past that nasty fiery breath.
You might get magicked, you might not. Personally, I treat magic the same way as I treat shooting - "it's happening and there's nothing I can do about it". Stay out of LoS, weather the storm and take out the Wizards. Eagles make reasonable "suicide bombers", for attacking wizards hidden in units. Or use an Alter Highborn. Just watch out for assassins.
