Welcome to Librarium Online!
Im very new to WE so my tactic is still shaky but im getting better.
My first big problem is my friend sets up in a cormer so there is no chance for flanking and stops my advance with 2 ogren guns and a banner of +5 ward agienst shooting.
Ive been told WE dominate on the movement and shooting phase with good cc so what is to be done when one is taken away??
Ive tryed to shoot his ogren guns but they refuse to die with the ward save. There gets to a point where we just sit at 30' and shout abuse at each other. Finaly when i get sick of it I charge into the killing grounds.
if somone has a way around this i would appriciate some help
Thank you very much
Dwarf armies can be a very hard match up for Wood Elves.
In the case of castling, like your dwarf friend, they are removing the advantages wood elves have by removing the movement phase out of the game. This is a very sound tactic against us. Your friend is giving a very boring game with very little avenue for victory, however it does have a flaw.
What kind of list do you take? That would have a lot of bearing on the advice given. However, I did have a similar problem with a dwarf player and I did the following.
1. Stayed at 30" and shot his missile units, a 5+ ward save is good but not insurmountable.
2. Last turn I captured three table quaters and contested his. Bonus 300 VP.
He was losing every game we played because he stayed back. Sure they were only minor wins but it's better than a loss or a draw. You have to exercise patience and show that his "plan" doesn't work against you, then he will change his list and you will both have more fun.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
You can also just surf a wood right in front of his gunline. If you have a treeman, you can park it in the wood, out of sight and strangle root him till he comes in after you...
...which if you can tree surf at all is always a BIG mistake.
If you have spellweavers (a lord wizard) there's some nice spells in the Lore of Life to use against a Dwarf army. Rain Lord is good v's organ guns. You will need the enemy to be visible, so if i were you i'd cast Treesinging afterwards to hide your caster
Sounds like your opponent uses one of the most boring (yet effective) dwarf tactics of castling up and just shooting your opponent unit he makes the mistake of charging your big unmovable blocks and losing combat.
I've only ever played 2 dwarf players who didnt play like this, 1 whooped me because i couldnt beat his combat res and the other I whooped because I was combo charging from all sides on his units.
From a tournament stand point, which is mainly where my experiance from dwarfs come from, I would simply just play the dwarfs game, just park your unit in and behind forests and terrain. With the wood elve movement, if he decides to actually attempt to play more then 1 phase and move up then you can easily make a move on one of his units in the last 2 turns to try get the win. Or (as bad as this sounds to some people) just play for a draw.
Ive had games against gunline castled dwarf armies where I attacked and paid for it. So I wont bother now.
As was said before, if we knew your list the tactics could be a little more specific. But in general, these I will list the tactics I use against dwarves.
Use skirmishers to go after warmachines. Dryads are great at this as are alters. Remember they can charge in an arc, so as long as you can see him you can charge. Make sure to give your alters ward saves. Amarathine brooch, stone of the crystal mere, glamourweave, all can give you the save you need to limit the damage from his warmachines.
If he is placing his warmachines of hills, always place your free wood near enough to the hill that you can get cover and set up your forces so that only one machine can see each unit.
And use the hail of doom arrow and any other shooting on his gunners, or crossbow men, not on the machines.
That is how I would attack them. Of course the other listed options of playing point denial and going for the minor win with table quarters is viable also.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
Thank you for your coments and to answer your question my list is usualy balanced with 3x10 units of GG, treeman, WRoK, WD, 3x8 Dryads and some more nothing special.
His shooting normaly consists of 2 ogren guns a cannon and a stone no basic missle troops.
Replying to waylander2's comment I agree with you 110% but i never rely on magic and wouldent want to put my eggs in that basket.
I agree with Skarsgard's comments as well, I have conveyed my feelings to him about much fun his games are or shood i say lack of. But all that aside i need to have a fair chance and i just cant see a way around it.
Thank you all very much
I recently got into a 2000pts battle against a dwarf gunline. It was my first game against dwarves and I've heard how difficult they could be. I didn't expect to do much but get blown away, but I actually slaughtered him to a man, with a little luck
Things that won the battle for me:
Using the forrest and archers as shields to protect a few combat units until then can get the charge
Blasting a a roll of 14 with HOD, doing enough damage to panic the unit with his general
having all his troops cooped up in a small place made it so that once a unit got into H2H, it was in H2H for the rest of the game.
This is a situation where way watchers could be helpful.
Just stay at 30" at pelt them with arrows. The only thing they can bring to bear at that range are cannons, which can only take out 1 GG a turn (if they are in a line). Oh, and take table quarters too.
