Hagbane Arrow combined with The Bow of Loren seems like an interesting character. In the description to hagbane it says the character must take an additional toughness test if wounded.
I suppose they mean a toughness test with my characters strenght? (in this case, S4)
(Could one equip a great weapon to get a S6? not sure of how the rules are with great weapons and longbow. It seems unrealistic though, it obviously only works in close combat)

When taking a toughness test you roll equal to or under your toughness value, not strength.
it doesn't really seem that good to me. at a S3 shot, your odds of wounding (or hag-bane-ing) a higher toughness is low, lower still when you consider saves. I don't know of any T3 models with multiple wounds that are not characters, and if you can shoot a character with the BOL . . . well it doesn't seem to happen very often that a person will stick a character out of a unit against me.
The idea of an auto-kill is apealing, but it doesn't seem very likely. Bodkins are the way to go IMO
I tend to agree. Anything with enough wounds to make that worth while is probably either not going to be wounded or pass it's test.
Yeah, it's not worth it IMO.
First you have to hit.
Then you have to wound.
Then model takes armor save if it can.
Then ward save if it can.
Then toughness test.
That's way too many steps to pass to maybe kill off a model, especially when the juicy targets are all high toughness.
Bow of Loren and Arcane Bodkins will payoff game after game.
Especially since it's useful against ANYTHING with armor, as compared to targetable multi-wound targets (such as characters outside units); which realistically are not nearly as common.
Thanks, yes, arcane bodkins is a better choice no doubt.
However, against Ogre Kingdom it was a interesting thought.
In any case, I'm glad to see there are many helpful players around
The BoL/Hagbane might be fun to try out every now and again in friendly matches, but as has been said, the Bodkins are cheaper iirc, and have more use than the Hagbane arrows.
