I've been tallying up the expected cost for the kind of 2k WE force that I'd like to field and it's actually quite a bit more expensive than I expected.
Part of the problem are the wild riders, which are pretty expensive at 62 USD for a unit of 6, and that's forcing a full command on you. I can probably find em for about $35, but still.
The other major problem is that I really, really like the Gamezone warhawk riders (Silvanus Wind Riders to use their terms). Unfortunately, they run close to 30 USD a pop even discounted. Considering I'd probably be paying in the neighborhood of $12 per GW warhawk rider, that's a pretty big pill to swallow.
Fortunately, Gamezone also sells the hawks alone for a good $8 less each.
Enter the Wood Elf Battalion. I'd probably only field glade riders in units of 5, so the 8 included in the box would leave me with 3 spare models.
I'm wondering if any of you have experience with the Gamezone hawk models and could tell me if slapping my 3 extra glade riders as riders for the hawks would be feasible -- paying an extra $36 or so for a really awesome unit of warhawk riders is a lot easier to swallow than paying an extra $60.
With the warhawk riders its a gamble, because youre not sure if the GR fit on the warhawks. And for the wild riders, I had the same problem (allright, a little bit different, I just hate metal models THEY WON'T STAY TOGETHER ) but I converted them with glade riders horses and legs, beastmen bodies and dryads heads.
My wild riders are a combination of glade riders and silver helms. I really like the way they turned out and once they get painted I will post some pics.
