Hey, I'm new to the forum and fairly new to Wood Elves. For convenience's sake in my first WE game with my friend I just grabbed some printer paper and drew (badly) some trees on it to represent forest. After playing a couple games though, with me putting down 2-3 forests minimum (not including my free forest placement), I'm starting to wonder if maybe printer paper sized forests are a bit too huge?
So I was wondering, what size forest do you usually use?
As far as I know only the one the Asrai get for free has a limitation on size. Though generally the ones used in a Games Workshop are compact and only about four trees big. It's more of a copse really.
Most the time they are about the size of a DVD case give or take a little, as for the free one it has limits as listed in the Army book.
However being a follow wood elf I say do what I do, carry a bunch of pieces of green felt with some trees, some the size as stated above and some that are 50-200% bigger then when you are placing terrain as per deployment and everything start with the bigger ones and only change to smaller ones if your opponent complains.
Some call this cheating as there is no real limit on the size of terrain piece normal (the non free frost that is). But in my mind what proper wood elf / forest spirit is gonna go away from the main forest to fight.

- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
I think I field about 16-25" of forest when I go into battle (including my 'free' forest). I use the same tactic as described above, start big and only change size when the opponent complains
I must say that most of my opponents dont complain, so we make an agreement on the amount of forest I will field at the start of the game. Just try what your opponent thinks is good and put a bit more down every time!
About the printer paper assuming that is A4, yeah that is pretty big for a single forest
