Bassically ive just started my wood elf army off with a box of Glade Riders.
I've assembled them all but my champ i feel is too similar to the rest. ( shes got the big meaty sword and the big meaty bow and the cape with gems.)
so i wanted to make her stand out but im not sure how.
I've got some Green Stuff and the left over bits from the Sprue. Im not too keen on the sprites to be honest, or the way stone ( not on the GR bases anyway.)
thanks in advance
My advice would be not to make a champ. Glade riders only ever need a musician. No champ or standard bearer needed or wanted really. Just make it up as another regular glade rider.
Welcome to the forest,
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
Yeah after reading the advice on the forums and the lists ive seen that GR are usually taken in 6's
I suppose i had the urge to make one because i like the look of it and it can always be classified as a normal troop.
still though have you got any ideas?
Thanks for the fast reply Sir
Glade Riders are usually taken in 5s with only a musician. Cheap, annoying and fast.
As for the champ idea, I'd go with the standard "dude on a rock" method. Glue a long piece of bark / stone to the base and put the steed / rider on that.
Another idea is to add one of the banners that come on the sprue and add it to his spear. Paint it the "theme" color of your army. You could also paint his cloak the same color.
I'm not sure I'm being clear... so maybe I'll post some pics of what I mean!
Look at my wardancer champ...
He doesn't stand out a whole lot but the addition of the owl and the increased amount of green he definitely looks like the champ. He has a green face mask / green cloak in the front and some more elaborate green glyphs on the back of his cloak.
Champs on rocks, this unit has 3 champs (some not done =p)
Just being on a rock with some swords definitely makes them stand out.
Banner on a spear idea (my crappy wild riders... they really need some work)...
That champ has a cooler helm , on a rock, and has the banner on his spear!
Hope this helps!
something that always helps to make the champ stand out is slightly change the color scheme.
Let say all your GR have a green and brown color scheme, than switch the brown with red for example. That will make it look as if he is different but still the same as the others. Do note that swapping the green with orange might not be a good idea... its more about small parts (like the leather or the hear)...
hope this helps
PS: and place him on a rock (as if he is leaping forward from the rock).
