I just started playing WE, and im in doubt about two things:
1. HOW do you guys place the wood (and terrain in general) on the battle table?? Do the wood elf decide where to place the wood, or is it completely random?
2. HOW MUCH wood do you guys place on the battle? (2k vs. 2k battle.) measured in inches.??
Thx in advance.

My group of friends have found it to be very entertaining to roll randomly for terrain (amount and type) and then trade off in placing them. We use one of the old rules books and it is quite a lot of fun as you can get some really interesting terrain. ((and sometimes no woods at all GASP!!!!))
If you are referring to our "I am a wood elf so i get an extra piece of woods" terrain Then we get to place that directly after the roll for table sides. You can place it anywhere on your SIDE of the table this includes but is NOT limited to deployment zones.
I usually place my piece of wood some where they will either
a) Protect a flank
b) Hide my Singer/weaver
c)block an enemy shooting lane.
d)as a pitt stop for a unit. (so they can hide out LOS and then when they get a chance move again)
Hope this helped
At our store, tables are pre-set with terrain. Uhsually 4ish pieces, at least 2 types (usually woods and hills).
for my free wood, I either place it where there is no woods to create cover/choke points, or I place it directly beside another wood that is already on the table, maximizing the forrest and making it my central base of operations.
I have heard of other ideas tho. Placing it 10' out of the deployment zone, running 2x treemen/tma and BSB into it and sining it strait in, stranglerooting anyone that comes near and staying out of LOS so as not to get charged. I've also put it in the back corner of my deployment zone and used a large unit of wardances to lure some calvery into the corner, only to pop the dancers into the woods and have a chacater with the moonstone pop them out on the other side of the table.
There are alot of ways to play with your woods, best to try the all and keep your opponents guessing.
Thx for the tips
If the obstacles isnt set up, is it then the WE who decides where to place the woods (looking away from the 6" wood which is to be placed by WE), or is it done randomly, if randomly, then how? artillery dice or??. Hope you understand my question...
as it was eluded too, it's different depending on where you play. There is no all encompassing rule for terrain deployment, it's house rules. it has to be Fair and equal.
I would hardly consider allowing the wood elf to deploy ALL the woods as fair. Your opponent should have a chance to throw a woods somewhere completly useless.
