Hello everyone - I haven't posted on here in a while and feel guilty because as I was coming back to gaming I posted a bit - got some feedback and got AMAZING ideas and have been back hardly at all. I feel akin to the prodigal son
So I played in a Conflict tourney and it only recently finished. I placed 3rd in the state at 1250 points. It was very exciting. I qualified with 3 massacres, Semis saw me with 2 massacres and a draw and In the grand finals I scored 2 massacres and a draw. --Funny enough, as I was catching up on these forums I noticed EltonSu who had some advice given about his list... I played him and we had a good game but unfortunately I scored a fun win versus Him - Good player and fun to play against.--
My draw was against Demons (in grand finals)!!! My turn 5-6 I had pretty much had it ALL under wraps - His flesh hounds were gone, flamers down, horros down and he had the massive unit of those tough guys with regen and the herald (yea he had a cheesy list and it was voted so by many)
Allow me to share my grief - Wardancers into the front assisted by my alter noble (still had like all 8 wardancers but he has massive frontage) Treeman into the flank. Good move right? Wrong! He owned a ton of wardancers with his chair and had an item which made them strike last. My champ was the only one left in front of his Herald - 2x Killing blows! Boo ya! Still... I did hardly any other wounds and lost combat - Noble and wardancers fled - Treeman held. Turn 6 I rallied with wardancers and Noble and Treeman Held. Draw - What should I have done? Left his massive unit like I did all game and kept treesinging trees infront of it and wiped out the rest of his force. Meh It TOTALLY pays to know the arimes you are playing. That was my 2nd time against Demons.
That demon player ranked 2nd and ahead of me by 1 point and 1st place beat him by 1 point. Cool eh? If I had kept my charges under wraps I could have pulled a Solid Victory with Quarters Fun fun..

Judging from what you've said, what actually lost you the game was your lack of knowledge on your opponents army.
Im not sure if you were playing open or closed lists, however the ASL gift is VERY common on Heralds of Nurgle, esp if they are on the palaquin as it increases their base size and gives them alot more attacks.
Also, if you were already winning the game (you should be able to get a rough idea of how many VPs you and your opponent have) the charge you described was very pointless unless you had to get a big win, wood elves are VERY good at getting enough points out of an opponent to win then melting away so they dont give up VPs themselves.
I don't see how it was 'totally pointless' at all. You stated that I should have known my opponents army better which I agree with and also mentioned in my earlier post. I didn't 'lose' the game, It was a draw and I actually won by a few points (just below the MV).
A treeman with 4 wounds into a flank of anything not only negates their rank bonus (as I'm sure you know) and gives me +1 res. 8 Wardancers into the front and a Alter noble to rack up kills... How is that bad? I didn't have very much left on the field except for those units (and my general who was my caddy). If I wanted a win, and one which would put me in a position to win the tournament I would have to go for that unit. The only other things he had left was a Pink Horror unit <half Str. and some Flesh Hounds who got left in the dust after my Alter charged.
Anyway - I was merely reporting my success and what I had learned. I'm not a noob when it comes to tactics and I ALWAYS play to my advantage. I can't entirely help it if I consistently roll below average - which is why I play tactics and selected Wood Elves.
Reread my post, i said it was pointless unless you needed it to win.
Also a common setup for a HoN is the ASL Gift and a Gift which means you cant get flank or rear bonuses against the unit.
The herald was always going to kill a few of your wardancers since you went for KB with his ASL gift since you would of had at least 4 in contact. Other factors, such as if the PB's had a magic standard (reroll failed wounds most likely) and if the HoN was a BSB also come into it. And then also if the HoN had a magic level, if he did he would of taken the 1st spell which makes all enemies in base contact have stats of 1, including attacks.
Since the ASL denies you the ability to remove the herald BEFORE all your other attacks it wasnt a very favourable combat since all the PB's will get regen against your attack bar the odd couple of KB rolls you make.
Could you post the army you used to get a draw with demons?
I havn't been able to beat them!!!

Umm... I could have picked up a minor or solid victory if I wiped out the rest of his army and stuck with my origional plan of avoiding the unit but a draw aint that bad considering we were the 2 best players in the comp. The guy who came first didn't have very good battle scores but got incredible composition scores and painting scores.
It's really just a WE combat army but saying that - the GG more than got their points back often enough.
Grats on the win vs. Empire, but if he took lore of fire, wait, any mages at all, things could of have gotten bad.Ive had a whole GG unit smoked in one turn by wall of fire, but that didn't happen so grats.
