Welcome to Librarium Online!
I played another game yesterday and am really liking multiple alter builds. The ability to apply 8-13 high WS, S6 attacks over a large charge range is really, really powerful. Warriors of Chaos are especially popular in my area, and multi-alter charges are just fantastic against things like chaos knights.
The top two alter choices are obviously the standard alter and either the amaranthine or amber alter, an alter with either the amaranthine brooch or the amber pendant and the briarsheath item.
I've been wondering if using either the amaranthine brooch or amber pendant for your third alter (whichever you don't take on the second one) would be a good call. The main question is what item you should pair it with. I see three possible choices: enchanted shield, talisman of protection, and gwytherc's horn.
The talisman pairs OK with the Amber Pendant but it's pretty redundant with the Amaranthine Brooch. The enchanted shield goes fine with either, but it only adds a slight amount of protection against shooting. Gwytherc's Horn is a bit of an interesting item in that you can use it to guarantee that you'll pass an important fear or terror test. When combo charging some big nasty with a bunch of alters, your worst nightmare is failing a fear test with one and still charging with the other. The only question is whether or not this insurance is worth the tradeoff for the talisman or shield -- after all, you'll only fail one in six tests.
I spose I'd go with teh shield, just cos it gives a kind of symmetry with the briarsheath (as in protection against shooting) and it gives another option in CC, even if you don't want it. I' not quite sure about having 3 alter characters, I don't think I could pull it off with my dice rolls . What do you use as the last character slot?
I might run an Alter HB with the Spirit Sword and Netlings. Remaining 20 points could be the enchanted shield, the Merciw's Locus, or Elynett's Brooch (which I like better than Gwythern's horn, as it has application over whole battle). Then I'd send him monster hunting.
Or character hunting.
I would also have to choose the enchanted shield.
The horn would come in handy in very particular instances, but is it really worth sacrificing some extra armor when you might not even use the horn in all the games? (speaking form a tournament point of view) The shield will have more chance of being used than the horn. Not saying the horn couldnt come in handy.
but i vote shield
