Welcome to Librarium Online!
Alright...I'm not sure if this has been dealt with yet and if it has please redirect me. I am having a tough time finding something to deal with the prince and dragon. can someone please help me. No matter what I come up with I just can't kill it...
An alter highborn, equipped no matter how, a great tree with netlings...nothing has killed this son of a gun...please help
I serve my master and do as he wants. He wants the badlands, thus they will be his.
-Shriva the Damned
I actually just faced one last night and killed it by charging it with the following highborn and a wild rider unit.
Alter, helm of the hunt, annoyance of netlings, amaranthine brooch, light armor, shield, great weapon
The one I killed the rider had halberd and the 2+ reroll/4+ ward so I went in with the highborn and the wildriders. Had the highborn challenge and then just attacked the dragon as he was more likely to be wounded won combat by 4 with the help of static res of the riders and then he broke and I ran him down.
I have also killed them with Orion when I use that list, the same way.
- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
I would try a couple of things. A big unit of waywatchers, a full 10. Some of those hits will randomize onto the rider, wounds will come against his Toughness 3, and then he's only got a ward save.
By the same token, alter highborn with bow of loren, arcane bodkins. It'd take a few turns, though. Might be too late.
Jump it with wardancers and go for killing blow. Don't take a unit champion so that he can't challenge. Dump every attack on the rider. If he has to take enough ward saves, he will fail one. I've dropped arch lectors on war altars that way, chaos lords...lots of toughies go down to a slew of killing blows.
As for the dragon, good luck! Bloodthirsters, too. I just sigh and hope his dice tank out.
Yep, Lyzaru's method is probably the only realistic way to do it and even then it's not always going to work.
Sometimes you just have to throw a few units under the bus. He's spending 500-600 points on that one model, so you try to minimize it's effectiveness and kill the rest of his army. Try to avoid lining your units up in such a way that it can pursue into a fresh enemy -- ideally, you want it to be able to charge every other turn at most.
