basically as i am a noob to WHFB and WDELVES i want to know if wood elves really ar the best archers in the game? and if so can you rely on archery to take down your opponent
well of course like using warhawks and stuff to prevent marching.
Well they don't suffer penalties for long range they have long bows 30' range (S4 I think), they have BS of 4 and they have armour pirceing arrows (only mundane arrows) at short range. Oh yeah and they can move and shoot (but they still have -1 to hit for moving)
Yep I think they are the best!
How victory may be produced for them out of the enemy's
own tactics--that is what the multitude cannot comprehend.

Yes wood elves are THE archery army. None can withstand their hail of arrows.

To be honest,WE shooting power is half power half phycology. They are the most accurate shooters in the game with armour pericing at short range. However,in the end your paying 13 points for a S3 weapon. Even concentrated fire will do almost nothing to cavalry,heavy infantry and monsters. Your targets should be other shooters,fast cav,and medium to light infantry. DO NOT think you can expect to take 800 points of archers and destroy half the opponents army by the time they reach you. If you want an army that relies on shooting,play empire or dwarves. If you want an army that uses shooting like a scalpel,and must rely on every aspect of army strength(h2h magic and shooting),pick wood elves. If you want an army that can steamroll over opponents,or devestate them with shooting,play brettonians or dwarves or skaven,because if you try to simply overpower your opponents with WE's,you will generally do very badly.
having gone to various sites concerning wood elves and downloading their preview army list i think that i am going to go with them.
Empire to me don't seem to have that much shooting power ( but i'm a noob and haven't actually played yet) they seem to have a couple war machines and such but not enough to rely on it.
Wizard lord and 2 wizards,captain on pegasi
3x10 hand gunners
x3 great cannons
well,you get the idea,it may look flimsy but i went 20-0 with a list like this facing everything from dwarves to elves to brettonians(which gave me the most trouble). Using good judgement on concentrated fire,excellent guesses,and good deployment,the enemy is lucky if even 1/3 of their army makes it into combat. And then you always keep around a group or two of IC knights to take care of that,as the above is less than 2k
wood elves are good at shotting but can be undone by horde armys like orcs so u have to be careful.
Yes people i know that my spelling and punctuation is awful but I am product of British teaching pollicies so what can I do about it?
I actually find horde armies easy to take on w/ WE's. Their troops suck,they have LOW LD,so a combined charge with dryads and wardancers/GR can ususally break the unit easily. The shooting really would be used to take out things like wolf riders,and orcs and such.
I'm just starting out and i'm wanting to use wood elves but they don't have an army book and they are definitely a tactical group to use. They seem like my kind of team but the group i'm starting with are only gonna use 600 point armies, would wood elves work in such low point battles? Would i have a big advantage or disadvantage(we'd probably be playing on my terrain because i'm the only one not to lazy to make one.
