Over a year and a half ago this was posted by our friend DavidWC09, I found it in my user CP of a comment I posed a while ago.I think it raises an interesting point about the game today. Would this still work as I find it hard to find flaw in the logic still. so discuss... again (I am pretty sure most people on this board are different form then anyway)"A guy I know used to play an unorthodox Wood Elves army with 50 archers and two Treemen. True to form, Mark played it unorthodox, too, in that he rarely took the Treemen into combat. Instead, he'd wander around the table with them and Stranglerooted enemies to death.
His massive amount of shooting was incredibly difficult to overcome, and he never risked giving up the VPs of his Treemen.
Do you think this cockeyed strategy will hold against most armies? I remember it as a strong list, though it was a relatively small gaming group. 10 guys on busy days. 14 for a tourney."
I will add to this and say, stand and shoot is more useful now, magic is far less effective especially if you put in a good spell singer in this army.
Wash: This landing is gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: [deadpan] Oh God, oh God, we're all going to die?
I think it is a viable list. Even with the 7th ed it should work. It requires some good manouvring, but since the shooters are getting buffed in 8th ed, this should work wonders.
I dont know what shooters he brought, but I am thinking of 20GG 2x5GR and 2x5WW or 10WW. That should give some decent shooting at around 700pts add the treeman, a lord and a spellsinger (maybe 2) and I think its ready for 8th ed.
The one downside is playing against lots of fast cav/ flyers. If they cross the board too fast, you lose. Only the treeman (and maybe the lord) are able to take a beating...
I'm assuming that the treemen pulled the old "treesurfing" stunt where they bound spelled Tree Singing at the woods they were in, and shot the strangle-root attacks out while staying more than 2 inches from the edge of the wood (LOS range). That won't work anymore (True LOS in this edition, remember?)- your treemen will get shot by cannons or charged (they're good, but not invincible).
Worked well in 7th as I did it a few times. My treeman only entered combat when forced to and with march blocking not really working any more and nothing having 360 vision you should be able to just march around and shoot them. Just gonna need stuff to hunt artilliary or us life magic and make your treeman T8/10 as then bolt throwers, cannons and what not are less likely to wound and you still got the ward save most of the time.
- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
Yeah, I love the lore of life now. You enhance it with number 3 spell then cast number 2 spell and oh look! A unit of toughness 7 elves! And oh, theres two extra wounds back for the treeman! This can only be done by a spellweaver though. Hopefully they make spellsingers use the lores of life and beast in the FAQ. Fingers crossed! XD
